My Skin Care Routine

In the past I've been very laid back when it comes to taking care of my skin, but as I get older I'm taking more time to focus on a better skin care routine. This month I turn 31. This may seem old to some and young to others. I feel alive in many ways, but am definitely feeling the aging process. What steps am I taking to protect my skin and age gracefully?

I still feel like a child at heart. Sometimes I wonder, how do I own a house? How am I a mom of 3? Am I really driving a mini-van right now? Then I realize I'm wearing a Lisa Frank tee and I'm jamming out to Katy Perry. One thing I am aware of is my skin aging over time. I've noticed small brown spots start to pop up on my hands and arms. They don't necessarily scare me, but they are a reminder I won't stay young forever ; ). Someone once told me you can always tell the age of a woman by her neck. So if you see me observing your neck I might be trying to guess your age..haha! With all that to say here are the steps of my current skin care routine!

After every shower I put on moisturizer to keep my skin from drying out. Face, hands, legs, feet, and arms. While I'm at work, I have to put on moisturizer after I use the restroom because I can't stand the way my hands feel dried out. I immediately apply Aveeno's Daily Moisturizing Lotion which I have been using for years.

I exfoliate with a face scrub at least twice a week at night to wash away dead skin cells and rejuvenate my skin. Then I apply a serum and add Aveeno's Skin Relief Moisture Repair Cream. I love waking up to a face that feels soft and refreshed even if I only got 5 hours of sleep...thanks kids.

I try my best to stay out of the sun, especially if I'm at the river or beach and in the sun for long periods of time. I'm always wearing a hat, cover up and sunscreen. I apply sunscreen to not only my face but my arms and hands. I'll also put on sunscreen when I know I'm going on a road trip because I'll be exposed to the sun from the windows.

I try to get a facial once or twice a year to deep clean my pores and increase skin cell renewal. When I can't go to the spa I apply a hydrating sheet mask once a month. I love freaking my family out while wearing them ; ).  I've also had Botox twice over the past two years, and hope to continue that every few years.

Overall my skin care routine is pretty simple because I'm lucky these days if I can get enough energy to wash my face and brush my teeth before bed. What are your skin care essentials?
