My Favorite Outdoor Activities in Austin

One of the many reasons I love Austin are the numerous options of outdoor activities! This thriving city is surrounded by lakes, trails, rivers, swimming holes and more. I've partnered with Athleta to share my favorite activities that are great for families, dates, or an outing by yourself or with friends!

LADY BIRD LAKE - In the heart of downtown Austin you will find Lady Bird Lake! You are likely to see paddle boarders, kayakers and rowers on the lake at all times and you might wonder what these people do for a living that they are able to do this at 10am on a Tuesday. At least I do ; ). The Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail and Boardwalk surrounds the lake creating a 10 mile trail which is perfect for running, biking or walking.

A few weeks ago I put on my Athleta gear and headed to the boardwalk for a power walk with Alex for a fun outdoor date! I wore their Colorblock Contender Tights which are made from recycled fibers and have a 3-layer inner mesh construction of waistband which holds my midsection for a no-muffin-top zone. Seriously, Athleta tights are by far my absolute favorite because of their high quality fabric that holds my stomach in and wicks away sweat! I love a good matching set, so I wore the Perforated Power of She Bra, which is made with breathable and wicking compression fabric. I also like that it has removable cups if you are wanting more or less coverage.

The sun feels almost unbearable at times in Texas, so I threw on this lightweight Essence Mesh Trim Tank for UPF 50+ protection. The mesh details add ventilation and it's designed with Unstinkable technology for fewer washings!

BARTON SPRINGS POOL -  One of the most iconic spots in Austin, Barton Springs Pool is fed from underground springs with an average temperature of 68-70 degrees, ideal for year-round swimming. Alex loves going for night swims which are free from 8-10pm, but I'm a wimp and won't swim if it's not 100 degrees out.

LAKE TRAVIS ZIPLINE ADVENTURES - The longest and fastest zipline in Texas, this zipline adventure takes you across canyons and the beautiful Lake Travis! They offer a 3 hour Guided Adventure which includes 5 ziplines ranging from 300 feet to over 2800 feet. The tour costs $119 plus tax and includes all equipment, boat transportation, water and a light trail snack. You also get access to their private beach where you can picnic, swim in the lake or relax in a hammock! I haven't actually done this tour, but it's on my Austin bucket list!

BARTON CREEK GREENBELT - The most well known greenbelt in Austin, Barton Creek Greenbelt is located in south-central Austin and contains 12.68 miles of gorgeous trails great for hiking and mountain biking. There are multiple entrances to this trail but my favorite place to enter is the Trail Head entrance located at 2201 Barton Springs Road.

HAMILTON POOL - This insanely beautiful natural pool is located about 23 miles west of Austin, but it is worth the trek! Hamilton Pool consists of 232 acres of protected natural habitat featuring a jade green pool and a 50-foot waterfall. Talk about an instagram worthy spot! Make sure you make a reservation online before you visit which costs $11 (can include up to 8 people). Once you enter there is a $15 per vehicle fee which must be payed in cash. Take a cooler with snacks and drinks so you can hang out for the day!
