Round Rock,TX Staycation

My husband and I lived in Round Rock for seven years and while Austin has some amazing spots, Round Rock is just as fun for a memorable staycation. From local restaurants, to scenic views to a lively nightlife, Round Rock has all you need for a memorable weekend. If you have 24-48 hours here’s a fun way to live it up in this great city!

STAY
We checked in to The Ruby Hotel, Round Rock’s first and only boutique hotel, located on Brushy Creek. It’s name was derived from a love letter found on the property addressed to a “Dearest Ruby” in a pile of leaves and trash. The only building on the site were a home (which is now the Ruby Bar) and a few sheds. The letter was the brand inspiration for the hotel, and I can see it come to life throughout the property.

Grab a room with a patio that backs up to the river and enjoy the beautiful view. After dropping our bags we enjoyed appetizers and cocktails at their mid-century Ruby Bar prior to going out for dinner. Included with your stay was a delicious breakfast buffet and access to their pool with a garden view. Each room is unique with vibrant hues of blue and green as well as pink bathrooms. I felt like I was stepping foot in to the Mad Men set.

EAT
One of our favorite places to dine on date night is Jack Allen’s Kitchen. You can’t beat the craft cocktails and locally sourced southern-inspired dishes. Never pass up the red chile fries as an appetizer and save room for dessert. My favorite is the chocolate bomb.

If you enjoy seafood, check out Jack Allen’s sister restaurant next door, Salt Traders Coastal Cooking. A casual environment in a seaside-inspired setting serving lobster rolls, fish tacos and raw bar selections.

Slapbox Pizzicheria on the square is known for their NY style pizza and giant slices to-go. They have over 50 beers on tap and TV’s if you want to stick around and watch a game.

Gino’s Italian Restaurant is where I head when I’m craving authentic Italian. It’s family-run for 25 years, and has won Best of Round Rock awards for seven years straight! They have a great wine selection and make their desserts from scratch.

If you are up for an outdoor adventure there are numerous trails to explore in Round Rock including Brushy Creek Trail which is over 6 miles long. The trail will connect you to Brushy Creek Lake Park which is a 90 acre park and includes a 38 acre lake, splash pad, fishing pier, volleyball courts, BBQ grills, canoe/kayak launch, playscape and more!

We enjoy going to Round Rock Express games at Dell Diamond or heading downtown for live music. Round Rock’s nightlife has grown, and includes dozens of fun bars lining main street. We enjoy the live entertainment at Rockey’s Piano Bar, Longbranch Saloon, and Alcove Cantina. If we are looking for a more quiet night we’ll see a movie at Flix Brewhouse and grab frozen yogurt at The Yogurt Experience.
