How To Venture Out With Twins

When I had my first child almost 5 years ago leaving the house seemed tough....then I had twins! Talk about a whole different level of difficulty. I'm sharing a few tips on how we get out of the house these days with a 4 year old and 18 month twins!

1. START EARLY
Morning is always the best time for us to get out of the house. Babies are in a better mood, and in TX it's a must to get out before it gets too hot. Recently Walt and Whitney dropped their morning nap, which is a bit tough because they get pretty cranky around lunch time, but having the whole morning for adventures is fun! Splash pad, park, errands, birthday parties and more!

2. PREPARE
Prior to leaving the house it's like a fire drill. I'm running around trying to grab everything we need! Find all the kid's shoes, change their diapers, and make sure the diaper bag has everything we could ever need. I'll grab snacks, diapers, cups, pacifiers, sunscreen, wipes, and a few small toys. I've become better at asking for help from Alex. I'll ask him to change the twins' diapers while I prepare the diaper bag. And he's always in charge of putting the stroller in the back of the car. We love the Joovy TwinGroove Ultralight stroller for outings, because it folds easily, is lightweight and is super comfy for the kids. It has two large UV50+ canopies, a carry strap for easy handling, tons of storage for cups and bags, and can be used with newborns as well.

I also had the TwinRoo+ Car Seat Stroller Frame and it was a GODSEND! Seriously, I used it ALL the time when the babies were little, and is my #1 recommended product for twin moms.

3. TEAM UP
Having someone to help when you head out on an adventure is almost always a must, but it depends on where you're going and how old your twins are. It's very helpful to have a spouse, neighbor, friend, or a family member help out (thank the Lord for grandparents). I pretty much can't take Walt and Whitney anywhere at this stage (18 months) by myself, because they are curious and dart in opposite directions. Every once in a while I will take all three of my kids to the park, because we're pretty contained, but it's still scary.

4. BE FLEXIBLE
Something is bound to go wrong. Someone will spill their drink all over themselves in the car, someone will poop their pants, and one will always have a full melt-down. When you have stressful and crazy outings, it's important to roll with it, have patience and be positive. As hard as it is getting out of the house, it's better in my opinion than being couped up in the house.
