When COVID hit Alex and I for the first time began working from home. I would work in my bedroom or living room and Alex would work at the kitchen table. After almost 2 years of this setup we had enough and decided to add an office. Here's a look at the before & after and our process.
BEFORE
When we began researching additional office space, we considered moving but that's when house prices went through the roof. We realized moving to get a couple hundred extra square feet would cost us an additional $500k (we bought our home in 2019). We looked at turning part of our attic in to an office. That quote was $90k. That's when we considered closing in the back part of our 3 car tandem garage and the quote was around $18k. We ended up refinancing and using part of that money to hire a contractor for this addition. It's crazy to think this room was part of our garage before because it flows so nicely with our home. You would never know it wasn't always here. It took about 2 months to complete.
Things we did:
- Closed in the back part of our 3 car tandem garage
- Leveled the floor and added the same tile from the rest of the home
- Added a large window
- Ran AC/Heat
- Added paneling to give more depth
- Added built-in shelving
AFTER
When it came to decor inspiration I wanted the space to be peaceful and minimal. I started with choosing a couch and began collecting items such as the thrifted horse painting and zebra rug. I have two additional prints on the wall from a trip to London and one of Nurnberg Germany, one of my favorite cities in Europe.
I love having a dedicated space to get into a work mindset. I'm able to shut the door and separate myself from the work which can be hard to do when you work from home. It's also a great additional space for the kids to watch TV because they are always fighting over who watches what. Overall I'm extremely grateful for this dedicated office space we were able to add to our home, and believe it was definitely worth the investment.

I really enjoyed seeing this home office transformation. It’s amazing how thoughtful design choices and an organized layout can completely change the feel and functionality of a space. A well-planned environment not only looks better but also helps people stay focused and productive. The same principle applies to wellness professionals, where the atmosphere plays a huge role in the client experience. For anyone looking for a massage room for rent, having a peaceful, clean, and professionally designed space can make every appointment more relaxing and memorable.
Love how you approached this. Converting part of the garage into a home office is often a much smarter investment than moving, especially when the space is designed to feel like it has always been part of the home. The natural light, built-ins, and matching finishes really make a difference. We've seen many homeowners choose similar garage conversions as a practical way to add functional living space without a major addition.
One thing worth thinking about for anyone doing a similar garage conversion is what happens to the remaining garage space — making sure the door and opener are in good shape becomes even more important when part of the garage is now living space. Ours had been neglected for years and we finally sorted it through garage door installers near me search — found a great team, same-day service, and the remaining bay now functions properly.
The transformation is impressive – it's amazing what a fresh layout and good lighting can do to a workspace. But a home office makeover often involves more than just furniture. Behind those new outlets or that extra monitor mount, there might be aging wiring or hidden moisture from an old leak. If you're planning similar upgrades, it's worth checking those less visible areas too. If something does go wrong, it's good to know where to turn. Creating a dedicated home office can make remote work much more comfortable and productive, especially when the space is designed around everyday needs. More information: zino-bet
This is such a good example of making better use of the space you already have instead of immediately looking for a bigger house. Turning part of the garage into an office was a really practical solution, especially considering how expensive moving or converting the attic would have been. I especially like the idea of using the same flooring and adding the large window, because those details make the new room feel like it was always part of the house. The built-in shelving and paneling also give it a much more finished look. The fact that the whole project took around two months makes the before-and-after even more impressive. It definitely makes me look at unused garage space a little differently. ivybet casino
Home office transformations are one of those projects where the improvements compound — better lighting, a proper chair, and cable management make a bigger difference to daily work than most people expect. The mistake I see often is prioritizing aesthetics over ergonomics; a beautiful desk setup that leaves you with neck pain after two hours isn't actually an upgrade. Natural light and a plant or two do more for mood than decorative items that just take up space. There's a discussion on luckygem casino about creating spaces that actually support the work you do rather than just looking good on camera — the point about investing in the chair before the desk was surprisingly practical advice. What change made the biggest difference for you?
The garage conversion makes far more sense than moving — $18k versus half a million is not even close. What stands out is matching the flooring and running real AC and heat, since most DIY office builds skip that and end up unusable in summer. A door you can close is underrated too. I did something similar on a smaller scale. The full breakdown is at https://millioners-casinos.de
