Be Confident. Be Bold.

I was raised to always trust my instinct, to stand up for myself, and to be confident in my decisions. Over the years, especially in my career, I've questioned myself. Am I good enough? Smart enough? Strong enough? Today I'm sharing how a simple shoe purchase had an impact on my thinking.

This past summer I was on a work trip in Seattle and my mother joined me. We had some free time one afternoon and we biked to a shopping area of the city where we discovered Dr. Martens first US retail store. I was immediately attracted to these silver boots. It had been over 15 years since I had worn a pair of docs. I tried them on and fell in love, but I thought "Can a mom wear these?" "Are these appropriate for work?" "What will people think?". You might be thinking...IT'S JUST A PAIR OF SHOES LADY! Well, obviously I bought them, and I overcame the negative thoughts in my head. My mom actually bought a pair as well (she has the best style)!

I've had confidence in myself most of my life, but there are definitely times when I feel less adequate. These boots helped me to realize that it's OK to take risks, to be bold, and to step outside your comfort zone. I think many women struggle with the imposter syndrome, and often feel like they aren't good enough. I proudly wear these boots to work as a reminder that I am exactly where I'm supposed to be, and I have the strength and knowledge to do amazing things. I'm the only one holding myself back.

When these photos were taken I was surrounded by people in a  busy part of downtown Austin. At first I was super uncomfortable and nervous, but I reminded myself to be bold and confident. "Rock the  boots!" I told myself. Pretend like you know exactly what you're doing, and don't worry what others think. Having a cute dress from Sonnet James helps ; ) Also, my beanie is on sale for $24!

Be bold. Be confident. Be yourself!
