Georgetown, TX Travel Guide

Georgetown, TX is an adorable and quaint town 30 minutes north of Austin and was voted the most beautiful town square in Texas! Alex and I spent two days exploring all that Georgetown has to offer for our 8th wedding anniversary.  Check out my travel guide for the best activities, restaurants, and accommodations!

WHERE TO STAY:

Sheraton Austin Georgetown Hotel & Conference Center - Conveniently located in the heart of downtown Georgetown, the Sheraton is a beautiful hotel with amazing service and immenities. We spent lots of time at the pool sipping on cocktails, listening to music, reading and chatting with other guests. It never fails we make new friends when we travel. There are cozy areas for hanging out with family and friends outside near the pool with fire pits, and in the winter the pool is heated!

The hotel offers free bike rentals which was such a fun treat! We biked along the river to San Gabriel park and to downtown Georgetown for brunch one day. Fun activity for the whole family to get outside and stay active. There are running trails and an amazing disc golf course right outside the hotel.

Brix and Ale is the Sheraton's new restaurant located inside which offers innovative twists on classic comfort food in a modern and relaxing atmosphere. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and also have live music.

WHAT TO DO:

Blue Hole Park - Blue hole is a scenic lagoon bordered by limestone bluffs along the San Gabriel River. This is a fun swim hole for all ages, and right next to Hat Creek Burger and El Monumento downtown. There are restrooms and shaded areas for you to set up camp if you want to spend the whole day there which many people do! Bring water shoes because it gets slippery.

Shopping - Along "The Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas" are some adorable shops! I personally enjoy the antique shops, but there's something for everyone on the square. Hot sauce tasting at Mikey V's, a custom hat and barber shop at Mad Hatters Brim Shop & Shave Parlor, the best selection of children's toys at All Things Kids (plus they have an candy store ice cream shop in the back), and more.

Wine Tasting - Grape Creek On The Square is a delightful wine tasting room located downtown. They are open 7 days a week and a guided wine tasting is $18. The have an exclusive patio and lounge for their wine club members, which after you do a tasting I'm sure you will want to join!

Garey Park - Georgetown's largest park boasts 500 acres of beautiful Texas Hill Country land. You can find volleyball courts, grills, an off-leash dog park, sculpture garden, trails, picnic areas, a splash pad and multiple playscapes for children. However, there is an admission fee for all guests.

Other notable activities include Inner Space Cavern, San Gabriel Park, The Georgetown Palace Theatre, and Novita Spa.

WHERE TO EAT:

Monument Cafe - Food so good we went twice in a weekend! Open for breakfast and lunch, Monument Cafe, is a classic diner in the heart of downtown. They have something on their menu for everyone and is great for families. Our favs include chicken and waffles, French toast, chicken fried steak and their reuben sandwich. Don't forget to try one of their homemade desserts and take home a pie to enjoy later.

600 Degrees Pizzeria - Located on Georgetown's picturesque square, 600 Degrees Pizzeria is a MUST stop! Their hand tossed pies are out of this world and their single slices are bigger than a toddler. The restaurant has a fun laid back vibe, outdoor patio, and 55 draft beers on tap!

El Monumento - Owned and operated but the restaurateurs of Monument Cafe, El Monumento serves home-style, made-from-sratch Mexican fare. We ordered suiza enchiladas, street corn, fajitas, and LOTS of margaritas. I can't turn down a fresh jalapeño margarita! El Monumento's architecture sets the restaurant apart with is modern design. Their beautiful patio overlooks the San Gabriel river and can host large parties.

Juiceland - Our first morning in Georgetown Alex and I stopped by Juiceland for a healthy start to our day. I grabbed a fresh squeezed juice (Tree of Life is my go-to) and we both took an immune boosting shot. They also serve smoothies and plant based meals to go.

Walburg German Restaurant - I stepped through the door of Walburg German Restaurant and I was flooded with memories of my time in Germany and Austria. This adorable small town restaurant is a few miles north of Georgetown and serves delicious authentic German food. We had the schnitzel, kase spaetzle, sauerkraut, sausage, German potato salad and more! After we ate we headed outside to their beer garden which was closed at the time, but we were told on Friday and Saturday night the owner (who is a musician from Munich) plays German polka. They serve beer, food and have kids activities so it's great for the entire family! I can't wait to go back with my kids!

Dos Salsas - Located in downtown Georgetown, Dos Salsas is by far my favorite Tex-Mex in the area! Great margaritas, fajitas, enchiladas and their verde salsa is THE BEST! I highly recommend the Quest Fundidos (melted Monterey Jack cheese served with tortillas).

Other great spots to check out include Galaxy Bakery, Woops Macarons,  Sweet Lemon Kitchen, and Black Box BBQ.

Love! We have gone to Georgetown several times for baseball (imagine that) but I'd love to go and just be a tourist. Looks quaint!
