Nestled in the Texas Hill Country along the Guadalupe river you will find Camp Fimfo! I took a weekend trip with my family and stayed in an RV rented from RVshare, and in this blog you'll learn ALL about this amazing Texas vacation spot!
Our trip was hosted by RVshare but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Fimfo stands for "Fun is more fun outside" and I 100% agree! Located 1 hour outside of Austin you can find Camp Fimfo. It's very close to Canyon Lake and located right along the Guadalupe river. It is neighbors with Whitewater Amphitheater so it's the perfect place to stay if you are attending a concert there!
LODGINGThere are multiple options when it comes to lodging. We rented an RV from
RVshare that was dropped off and set up by the owner! If you haven't heard of RVshare they make RV travel easy by connecting you to owners in your local area or at your destination. They offer the largest selection of trusted RV rentals in the country, and they offer thousands of options including Class B Camper Vans, Class C Motorhomes, Travel Trailers and more! Here is a
link to the RV we rented, and the best part is the day we left we didn't have to do a thing! We obviously cleaned up our stuff, but the owner comes and breaks down everything. At Camp Fimfo they offer Back-In or Pull-Thru Red Carpet RV sites, all featuring a concreted pad, full-hookups, charcoal grill, fire ring and picnic table.
RVshare offers industry-first rental protection and 24-hour road side assistance if you do take yours out on the road! We did a road trip in an RVshare rental a few years ago to Oklahoma, Arkansas and Missouri and it was so easy even for us who've never driven an RV. Check out my post about it here!
Camp Fimfo does offer lots of cabin and tent site options, but be aware of the location because some are a bit far from the pool area and if that's the case you will want to rent a golf cart.
FOODNear the pool you will find two
dining options, Squirrely's Tavern and the Filling Station, both serve pizza, wings, cheese curds, chicken tenders and more fast food type options. You can also get ice cream, cocktails and beer. The swim up bar in the main pool is a fun area serving cocktails and beer....their Pina Coladas were delicious!
As you can see dining options are slim but if you are wanting to skip on the cooking one night I highly recommend going to Gruene or New Braunfels for dinner! If you head to Gruene I recommend dining at the historic Gristmill, Gruene River Grill or Inferno's Wood Fired Oven & Spirits. If you go to New Braunfels check out
Krause's Cafe or
Clear Springs Restaurant!
Camp Fimfo has dozens of activities for all ages to participate in including;
- Gem Mining
- Mini Golf
- Basketball
- Pickleball
- Jumping Pillow
- Playground
- Tennis
- Yard Games including corn hole, washers, giant Jenga, Yardzee and giant Connect 4.
Scheduled Activities
Camp Fimfo releases a weekly schedule of daily activities (some have an extra fee) which can include...tie-dying, candle making, mixology classes for the adults, movie nights, bracelet making, henna tattoos, birdhouse painting, yoga and more!
Pool / Water Playground
We spent most of our time at the
pool that has two separate areas. One area includes a large pool with a volleyball net, basketball hoops and a swim-up bar. The main pool is heated in the winter. The other area has a huge splash playground! The water playground includes two kiddie slides, two large water slides and a hydro storm bucket. There is also a large hot tub and private cabanas available for rent.
Cliff Carver Alpine Coaster
We experienced the alpine coaster first hand and it was an absolute blast! The
Cliff Carver is a gravity-propelled sled than includes manual brakes, so riders can control their speed down the track. The track bobs and weaves for nearly 1 mile down the hills, offering great views of the Texas Hill Country. Little ones need to ride with adults, and this ride is an additional cost.
Guadalupe River
One of our favorite activities of our stay was spending time at the Guadalupe river. You can easily walk down to the river on the property. It was a bit chilly for us to swim so we hiked along the side which was beautiful. In the summer months you can tube or set your chairs in the water and let the kids swim! I did see a few people fishing so that's a fun option.
River Zip Line
Experience Texas' first
floating launch zipline! It features several swinging bridges off of a cliff face and then you'll soar the length of three football fields, 16 stories above the Guadalupe River! This is a brand new activity at Camp Fimfo and does have an additional cost.
Day Trip
If you want to venture out I recommend heading to Gruene which is ~10 miles away. We love shopping
Gruene Historic District, eating at the Gristmill, enjoying a glass of wine and dancing inside Gruene Hall. Check out one of my favorite hat stores,
Gruene Hat Company, and the cutest kids clothes inside
The Pomegranate.
We've traveled to a lot of family friendly destinations in Texas and Camp Fimfo is at the top of our list!
RVshare made our trip effortless and I highly recommend booking an RV through their easy to use site. We're already planning our next RV trip to a national park! Check out my
Instagram for more highlights of our stay.
