In a world of increasing consumerism I hit a point where I wanted to slow down my purchasing. To be honest inflation has made everything SO expensive, and I wanted to prioritize what I spend my money on. I love clothes, but definitely get caught up in fast fashion and spending money on items that I only wear a handful of times. We're over halfway through the year so I thought it would be a great time to check in and share tips I've learned during this challenge + the items I've bought.
Striped Shirt | Jeans (wash sold out)
So far I've purchased 17 out of 24 items totaling $1,588. Which only gives me 8 items left in 5 1/2 months of the year....yikes! I'm definitely going to have to push the brakes this summer/fall.
Items purchased so far:
- 4 pairs of shoes (Hokas, Crocs, Fred Salvador Sandals, Adidas Gazelles)
- 2 jackets
- 1 blazer
- 1 pair of shorts
- 1 sweater
- 1 set of pajamas
- 2 button down shirts
- 1 pair of jeans
- 1 dress
- 1 maxi skirt
- 2 tank tops
Freda Salvador Sandals (gifted) - Use code "JESSE15" for 15% off your first pair
I've learned during this challenge I'm the weakest when I'm in a brick and mortar store. Stepping inside a mall, Target or boutique is my kryptonite. I'm the type of person who will 98% find something I like. I'm also the type of person that LOVES trying on clothes. I vividly remember shopping trips to the mall with my mom as a kid and spending ALL day picking out a new school wardrobe. I really hate online shopping, but I understand it's the best way for me to control my spending and shopping habits. It forces me to be intentional with every purchase.
I've also prioritized buying higher quality and classic items knowing I'm going to be wearing them more often. It's easy for me to drop $20 on a shirt or dress at Target, but the problem is I'm doing that way too often and it ADDS up! It's hard to drop $300 on a pair of jeans or shoes, but if they are a closet staple and I absolutely love them then I know I will get my wear out of them. I delayed buying a pair of Golden Goose sneakers for years, but I bought a sequin pair a few years ago and I wear them ALL the time. The cost per wear for those sneakers is low!
Puffer Jacket | Alo Pants (my favorite pants)
They say the average person buys 68 pieces of clothing per year. I think it's easier than ever to be influenced to shop thanks to social media. Being aware of influencers that tempt me to shop is top of mind for me, and I try not to follow anyone who is constantly sharing shopping hauls. I only have 7 purchases left in 5.5 months, so I definitely need to stay focused on my goal and NOT step foot in a mall 😉.
Thanks for following along my #24buysin2024 journey!
