Mo-Ranch Family Vacation

I have the fondest memories of vacationing with my family at Mo-Ranch in Hunt, TX. Growing up I looked forward to it every summer, and now as a parent I am beyond excited to continue the tradition with my family. Mo-Ranch is a Presbyterian Encampment so there are many Presbyterian camps and conferences throughout the year, but is open to the public to stay.

My neighbors and I were chatting one afternoon in March about summer vacations, and decided it would be super fun to go on a trip together! How lucky am I that I love my neighbors so much I want to vacation with them?! We wanted a large cabin/house near the river that was great for families with kids of all ages, and Mo-Ranch immediately came to my mind. I began telling them stories of my childhood and everyone was on board!

A few weeks later we booked the Westminster Lodge for July 4th weekend! The lodge sleeps 16 people, has 4 separate bedrooms with a queen bed, bunk bed, bathroom and private patio. We all shared a common kitchen/common area which was perfect for dinners. As a kid my family would stay in a cabin with no air conditioning, but with babies and in the middle of a TX summer air conditioning was a must for us. Although, if you are interested in camping or staying on the campgrounds it's extremely affordable ($72 a night for a cabin, $32 a night for a campsite)! I've actually stayed in almost every lodge/dorm/hotel they have because I also went to camp here as a kid. I can say that I have loved them all.

Mo-Ranch is located on the Guadalupe River, and the water is cold and refreshing! I dream about the water the second we leave. We spent all of our time in the river...rapids, rope swings, canoeing and the EPIC Mo slide. Everyone was obsessed with the giant 38' slide which literally catapults you in to the river. There are tons of activities for families including a sand volleyball court, pool, ping pong tables, disc golf course, zip-line, rock climbing wall, hiking and natural trails, two playgrounds, and a sand volleyball court.

When it came to meals, each family was in charge of cooking two meals. Our cabin had a kitchen with everything we needed for cooking, so we just had to bring the food. This worked out great for everyone! One morning after breakfast we walked to Inspiration Point which overlooked the river and camp. The view was breathtaking and a perfect spot for family photos. Then we walked across the 45' Catwalk which is another great spot for panoramic views.

Vacations look a little different these days with the babies. I spent most of my time holding them, feeding them or trying to get them to nap. Taking care of two babies is never easy, especially when I wanted to be splashing in the water the whole time, but Alex and I took turns. I also had lots of extra hands thanks to my neighbors! A part of me could take the easy route and not take vacations when the babies are small, but I really enjoy making family memories. Turner is at such a fun age where everything is new and exciting, so even though it's tough loading up our family of 5, it is worth it!

During our time away we completely unplugged. No cell phones, no tv, no iPad...nothing, and it was wonderful! The kids played and the adults shared stories about life, family, marriage and more. We spent 2 nights and 1 full day there, and were sad when we had to leave. It was a VERY affordable vacation and only a 3 hour drive from Austin. We're already planning next year's trip back!
