Candy Cane Christmas Tree

For the past 5 years Alex and I have put up a very traditional and simple (artificial) green tree, but this year I wanted to do something fun! Working with At Home has inspired me to step outside of my comfort zone and try something new so this year I bought a silver tree!

Alex was reluctant but once it was up, he liked it...told you so ; ). This pre-lit tree is 7ft. tall and only $99! I went with a candy cane theme, because I love how the red pops with silver and I thought it would be fun for Turner. We decided to put our tree in our master bedroom because Walt and Whitney would pull at it constantly if it was in our living room.

For decorations, I grabbed a range of ornaments and made sure to get garland and ribbon. Both of those add a lot of texture to the tree. Whatever theme you want to go with At Home has you covered. They have thousands of options when it comes to ornaments and decor. I had a field day with candy cane/peppermint themed ornaments!

TREE DECORATING TIPS

- Add lights. Our tree was pre-lit so I didn't add extra lights, but you can add large bulb lights to create more depth and sparkle

- Add garland

- Add ribbon - this year I went with a waterfall theme which is much easier than the traditional way of wrapping a tree

- Add special/vibrant/large ornament

- Fill in spots with plain ornaments *Don't forget to add in ornaments at different depths to make the tree look more full

- Add adornments (the little sparkly sticks)

- Add a fun topper! I love this starburst topper, although my son says it's not a star and doesn't approve ; )

- Finish off with a tree skirt

What do you think? I do miss my family/sentimental ornaments, but I think next year I will incorporate a smaller traditional tree for another room that will house those.

This tree is gorgeous! I love how the red pops with the silver. I like to mix up my decorating style every once in a while. :)

I love this. It is too big for my apartment (we are talking a picture of a tree on the fridge decorated with stickers small.) My grandmother had one that she left up year round in the formal living room. Now I wish she still had it! The peppermint theme is perfect!
