I love you. :-) And I think we're the same person. I love the idea that both you and Alex are spending part of your paychecks on daycare, not just YOU simply because you're the mom.
I actually love being a working mom...most of the time. It can be hard to balance work and family when one of my kids is not feeling well and I have meetings that I need/want to be at, but for the most part, my job is not too demanding or high-stress (which was intentional on my part). It actually fills me up. Granted, I do work 32 hours instead of 40 (with benefits, which is HARD TO FIND for part-time work) and my kids come with me to the on-site daycare, so there are definitely PERKS (I still get to see them throughout the day).
I also think my kids benefit greatly from being around other kids and adults, which makes it easier to be apart from them.
It would take a lot of effort for me to learn how to enjoy being a stay-at-home mom. Maternity leave sucks all the life out of me, ...I was definitely ready to go back after 8 weeks (minus the not sleeping part).
I'm not a mom, so I don't spend a lot of time on typical "mom" blogs or message boards, so I honestly cannot fathom why this is an issue. Why it's become this working mom vs. stay at home vs. work from home battle. Like, who cares how someone wants to raise their kids. Who cares if a mom wants to return to work or stay home? If the kids are turning out to be kind, thoughtful, compassionate people, then obviously something is being done right. Don't people say it takes a village to raise a child? Why is it a competition and a lightning rod for people to openly judge each other?
If a mom wants to stay home after having kids and can afford to, great. If staying home would make the finances tight, but they're willing to cut the excess spending and make it work, great. If a mom doesn't want to stay home and the finances aren't even in the picture, great. If the mom needs to work because of finances, great. Basically, however people want to raise their kids is fine with me. I honestly don't think you or any mom need to justify your decision.
