Ahhh! I can finally share my master closet with you! When we moved in to our home over a year ago, my closet was big big but only had a few shelves and was not functional. After about 6 months of trying to find ways to organize this space, I decided I wanted to invest in something long-term. Today I'm sharing my design process and closet transformation with California Closets.
Post sponsored by California Closets, but thoughts and opinions are my own.
DESIGN PROCESS:
First, I called California Closets in Austin and discussed over the phone what type of project I wanted to do. They immediately set up an appointment with one of their designers, Maria Tomas, to come to my home so we could look at the space, talk about my vision, and take measurements. Once Maria was in my closet, she asked me detailed questions about my needs and wants for the space. She learned about my style, my love for fashion, and my need for storage.
After a week or so Maria had completed my closet design, and I went to their Domain location to see it in person. Using their design software, we were able to look at space and make adjustments on what I liked and didn't like tailored to my budget. While I was in the store I also picked out the finishes I wanted to use.
INSTALL:
About a month later my closet had been custom made in Texas, and they sent their dedicated builder to come install it. You can pay to have them take a part your old closet and prep for the new installation, but Alex and I decided to do that ourselves to cut costs. We took down our shelves, patched and retextured the drywall and I painted the closet white. I had an 8am appointment time, and it took about 6 hours for them to install.
FUNCTIONALITY:
Overall I wanted to utilize most of the space for shoes. My designer, Maria , counted every pair of shoes I had and made sure to have enough shelves to hold them and some additional pairs over the years 😉! She also learned about my love of hats, so we made lots of room for them as well. I love that every shelf and rack in my closet is adjustable! I can move the shelves up or down whenever I need to. I also wanted a few hanging racks for dresses, jackets, jeans and shirts, and shelf space for off-season clothing. I have quite a collection of vintage clothing I'm saving for my daughter, and I've stored that in linen baskets at the top of my closet.
Other than getting to see all my shoes lined up every day, my next favorite thing about the space is the dresser in the center. I have a jewelry organizer in the top drawer and the next three drawers hold swimsuits, undergarments, and accessories. I love showcasing my favorite hats and purses on the shelves above, and I switch out depending on the season.

My closet is my favorite room in my home thanks to California Closets! It's the most organized space, and when I walk in I feel inspired to put together fun outfits! I've added unique decor that brings me joy like a George Strait print, original art, vintage rugs, and a photo of my Dad.
