INNER SPACE CAVERNS
This experience was by far my kids favorite activity and it's fun for adults too! Hidden for over 10,000 years Inner Space Cavern is one of the best-preserved caves in Texas. It was discovered by a Texas Highway Department core drilling team in the spring of 1963 and was opened to the public in the summer of 1966.

In the cave you'll find beautiful formations, large rooms, prehistoric animal bones (lots of mammoth bones), and a truly unique discovery story. It remains a constant 72 degrees year round and it does NOT flood during rains. This is the perfect activity on a rainy or cold day and it's conveniently located right off of i35! I would not recommend bringing a curious walker that doesn't listen to directions, and strollers and wheelchairs are not allowed in the cave.

We did the Adventure Tour which is a 1 mile walk good for all ages and beginner levels (see prices here). The guide led us through the paved lit trail to see the largest and most formed formations. He told us all about the history of cave, and we saw lots of sleeping bats! The tour is 1 hour 15 min and departs every 20-30 minutes on a first come first serve bases (no reservations). I recommend wearing comfy walking shoes, but they are not required. There is a playground in the back, but it's currently closed due to COVID. They have a snack bar and gift shop right when you walk in.

Hours:

SAN GABRIEL PARK & TRAILS
Our favorite park to visit is San Gabriel Park in downtown Georgetown! Words really can't describe how much I love this park. Not only is it absolutely stunning, but my kids are obsessed! There are 3 playscapes, walking trails, swings, disc golf, skate park, basketball courts, a sand volleyball court and more. My kids enjoy bringing their bikes and riding the trails, which are also dog friendly.

This 180 acre park and trail is located along the North Fork and South Fork of the San Gabriel River. The park was designated a Lone Star Legacy Park by the Texas Recreation & Parks Society in March 2012. It's one of the only nine parks in Texas to be awarded this designation in its inaugural year. These parks were chosen for their historical prominence within their communities and the state by providing natural respite and social interaction as those communities were founded, developed and prospered.

One of my favorite things about the park is the abundance of shade (something every mom is looking for in the heat of a Texas summer). There are hundreds of 200 year old oak trees that offer the perfect spot for picnics in the grass. If you visit you'll likely be greeted by a duck as they have dozens that swim up to the side ready for a snack.

The facilities are very well taken care of and they have large clean bathrooms on site if you need them. There are 9 pavilions great for parties or to enjoy a meal with friends or family. They are free to use, but you can rent them here if you want to reserve one for a special event.

KAYAKING ON LAKE GEORGETOWN
There are many places to enter Lake Georgetown, but one of my favorite spots is Jim Hogg Park. This area has a beach perfect for kids and you can rent kayaks! You'll need to reserve your kayak ahead with Ducks On The Pond via Instagram or Facebook

We rented a 2 person kayak for $50 for a 2 hour rental, and they do offer group discounts. The owner, Kayla, was super sweet and had all the gear we needed (life vests, oars). She gave us guidance on different routes we could take and we chose to paddle towards Crockett Gardens Falls which only took 30 minutes one way. We parked our kayaks on the edge and walked to the falls which are absolutely stunning. It was the perfect morning activity on the water, and if it's warm enough it would be great to jump in and swim!

SWIMMING AT BLUE HOLE
Blue Hole Park is an iconic spot in Georgetown, and you can't miss it if you're driving through downtown. The actual blue hole is a scenic lagoon on the South San Gabriel River. The entrance to Blue Hole park is located at Second Street and Rock Street (just behind El Monumento). The park is lined with limestone bluffs and a great wading spot for little ones. In the summer you'll find dozens of family bringing coolers and food to enjoy the water for the day! You can also access Blue Hole Park from behind Hat Creek Burger so there have been many times we've eaten lunch and then headed to the river!

HIKING GOOD WATER LOOP

Good Water Loop is 26 mile heavily trafficked trail around Lake Georgetown. The best place to start is at Cedar Breaks Trailhead which will take you to Crockett Gardens and Falls (natural spring feeding the waterfall) which is about a 5.8 mile out-and-back trail snaking along the banks of the lake. There is no fee to hike but there are fees for boating and camping. Dogs are allowed but must be on leashes. This trail is good for kids but there are a few spots with cliffs so you'll need to keep a good watch on them. The falls are located in a small cove off the lake offering a great spot to dip your feet before you head back.
