Boerne, TX Travel Guide

Every year my sister, sis-in-law and mom take a girls trip to celebrate my mother's birthday. It's a great time to get away, relax and connect just us girls. This year we decided to visit Boerne, TX, which is only 2 hours from Austin and 20 min. north of San Antonio. Boerne is located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country and was founded by German immigrants over 150 years ago. It's a great place for a family vacation, couples weekend and girls trip.

Check out my travel guide below!

WHERE TO STAY:
Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort is nestled in the Hill Country on 220 acres, and is great for all types of trips. I might be a bit obsessed because THE George Strait is a co-owner. I stayed here last year for a family vacation, and we spent most of our time at the pool and on the golf course. This trip was a bit more relaxing...hello no kids!

They have a giant fire pit which is an amazing place to sit and relax after a long day, and their outdoor patio has flat screen TV's for games plus live music every weekend. The patio is located next door to a full bar, so it's a great spot to hang out, have a drink and enjoy your company.

If you're interested in staying somewhere you never have to leave, Tapatio is the perfect option. With a pool, golf course, restaurant, bar, live music and spa you really never have to leave. It is minutes from downtown Boerne, and only 30 min. from San Antonio if you are interested in going to Fiesta Texas or Sea World. Find Tapatio on Facebook & Instagram!

WHAT TO DO

PureSol Spa:
PureSol Spa is located inside Tapatio Springs and is infamous for their therapeutic salt cave. The climate is rich in ions, minerals and micro-elementary particles like sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium and many others which are present in the air. These are naturally absorbed into body during the therapy by breathing the saturated air into the lungs and thus improving the intake and increasing supply of these important elements necessary for good health, performance and overall fitness for all ages.  I had a Hydrafacial and spent 45 minutes in the relaxing salt cave, which I immediately fell asleep in. This is the second time I've had a Hydrafacial and it's hands down my favorite. You can literally feel them suck out dirt, dead skin and blackheads all while nourishing your skin at the same time!

My mother had the Ashiatsu massage and said it was the best massage she's EVER had, and she has had a lot of massages! Think deep tissue but deeper and less painful.  The therapist uses her feet the entire time. My sis had a Swedish massage and my sis-in-law had a European facial. We sipped on mimosas and soaked up every second. I highly recommend Pure Sol Spa if you are in the area.

Main Street Shopping:
Boerne has a quaint square and picturesque main street with shops along both sides great for shopping and antiquing. You can see the rich German heritage in the old stone buildings with narrow windows, steep gables, and outdoors stairs and gardens. It's very similar to Fredericksburg, TX with less people.

I had watched Daytripper's Boerne episode prior to our trip and knew I wanted to stop at Fickle Pickle, a store known for their sweet, spicy and crunchy pickles. Y'ALL...I was not disappointed. I wanted to buy every jar of pickles they had. I seriously dreamt about them the night after I tried them. I ate this jar in a day, good thing I can order them online!

The Dienger Trading Co.:
The Dienger building was constructed in 1884, and now serves as a bakery/bistro, bookstore and boutique. This building has so much character and was my favorite stop of the trip. The décor reminded me a lot of Austin (very unique and hip), and the boutique had an amazing selection of women's, men's and kids clothing and accessories. This is the perfect lunch spot to relax after strolling main street.

Other recommendations:  Cave Without a Name (National Natural Landmark) great for kids, Cibolo Nature CenterRiver Road Park

WHERE TO EAT:

The Dodging Duck Brewhaus
We were drawn to the Dodging Duck because of their great patio which overlooks Cibolo creek. They have authentic German food + lots of beer.

La Cascada Table & Bar
Conveniently located inside Tapatio Springs, La Cascada emphasizes farm-fresh, locally sourced cuisine. Their beautiful dining room overlooks the resort's golf course and on the weekends you can enjoy outdoor dining and live music on the patio. If you have a group of people with different tastes, La Cascada is perfect because they have a wide range of options. Steak, salmon, specialty salads, chicken, nachos, crab and more.

We started with the Ahi Tuna Cheviche and Baked Brie in a Cast Iron Pot, and they were both delicious! For my main course, I had the cast iron chicken fried steak with buttered mashed potatoes and broccolini. Soooo good! I highly recommend this restaurant if you visit Boerne.

Snowflake Donuts:
Great place to grab local donuts and kolaches! So small they don't even have a website, gotta love small town shops.

Other food recommendations: Cibolo Creek Brewing Co., Bear Moon Bakery, Mary's Tacos, Soda Pops - Patio Grill & Bar, Little Gretel Restaurant

I absolutely love the German culture of Boerne as I've always been fascinated by Europe and the German language. This town has so much to offer for a great vacation, and is located in a beautiful area of Texas. For more info check out Boerne's visitor website here!
