There's only one month left of summer break for my kiddos before school begins. Today I'm sharing what we've crossed off our summer bucket list and what I'd still love to do with them before it ends!
As a working mom summers are weird. My kids are out of school (except my twins who are 3 and in school year round), yet I'm still in the office doing the same day to day activities. My schedule has slowed down a tad bit, and I get to work from home on Fridays so that's a major bonus. I've taken a total of 5 days off including July 4th and 5th. I take Turner to an outdoor YMCA camp that he absolutely loves. He plays football, soccer, swims twice a week and they take him on field trips every once in a while. He told me he wants to be a camp counselor one day : ). Even though I don't spend all day with my kids, I try to make special memories with them after work or on the weekends. Here's what we've been up to!
1. Typhoon Texas - We are lucky to live close to Typhoon Texas which is an amazing waterpark perfect for all ages! We have season passes and have loved going especially in the evening after I get off from work. One weekend my extended family was in town, and we rented a cabana which is the way to go! With the cabana rental comes front row parking, early entry, a dedicated server, fruit tray, water bottles and a guaranteed shaded spot with comfy furniture. If I had a summer birthday child I would definitely host their party here!
2. Snow Cones - When I pick Turner up from school he ALWAYS wants a snack. Usually we go home and get one, but every once in a while I will take him to get a snow cone. I choose pickle flavor and he chooses cotton candy. Last week we checked out Snowy Village in North Austin, and OH MY GOODNESS! It blew every snow cone I've ever had out of the water! They serve "Bingsu" which is a popular Korean shaved ice dessert made with milk and cream, and they have a wide range of toppings such as Oreos, matcha, fruit, and fruity pebbles!
3. Round Rock Express Baseball Game - Last year we had season passes and went every week. We've only been once this summer but it's still one of our favorite activities. Hit up Monday for $1 hot dogs, Thursday for $4 pints, Friday for fireworks or Saturdays for live music where the kids can dance and play on the field.
4. Neighbor Trip to Mo-Ranch - For the past 3 years my old neighbors and I have taken a weekend trip to Mo-Ranch which is nestled in the TX Hill Country in Hunt, TX. It's 3 hours from Austin and my all-time favorite Texas destination.
5. Movie Night - Alex took Turner to see Toy Story 4, and I took him to see the new Spiderman. I'm not taking Walt or Whitney because they don't sit still. I have two free tickets for Alamo Drafthouse and want to take Turner to see Lion King before school starts!
6. Beach Trip - The last time we visited the beach was over 4 years ago. Walt and Whitney have never been, and I'm BEYOND excited to take the entire family to South Padre Island (6 hours south of Austin). I grew up in South Texas and have never been! We would always go to Rockport, Corpus or Port Aransas, so I'm excited to see the beach! I'm partnering with VRBO and staying at an awesome condo near the beach that also has lots of pools.
7. Make S'mores - My sister and nieces spent the night one night and the kids enjoyed pizza and s'mores on our patio. As I watched them play with dirty faces I couldn't help but smile and think how fun it was to be a kid living my best summer life.
8. BBQ with Friends - We've slowly had friends over to our new home, and we've been updating our patio as the summer goes on. I don't love cooking, but Alex loves grilling so I pull out the snacks and Alex cooks the meat. We had our old neighbors AND new neighbors over last weekend and it was a blast! I love when all the kids get to play together and the parents get to chat. One of the biggest reasons I was attracted to our new home was the open layout of the kitchen/living room area. Our kitchen island is perfect for entertaining, and the dining area leads right to our patio.
8. Family River Trip - For July 4th we spent the long weekend at River Bluff Cabins (near Leakey, TX) on the Frio River. We swam, ate ice cream, went dancing at Garner State Park, and took Walt and Whitney tubing for the first time! I was surprised how well they did. They lasted almost 5 hours with no crying!
What have you been up to this summer? I rememberer as a kid being so ready to go back to school, but as adult I think they are WAY too short!
