I grew up in a home that taught respect, love and care for each other. We were taught to trust our intuition, stand up for ourselves, and never give up.
At my father's memorial we knew the preacher would share memories of our father, but we didn't know the details of the service. He shared scripture from 1 Thessalonians 4, and focused on the following verses, "9 Now about your love for one another we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other. 10 And in fact, you do love all of God’s family throughout Macedonia. Yet we urge you, brothers and sisters, to do so more and more, 11 and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you, 12 so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody."

Living A Life That's Pleasing To God
Grateful
This past weekend was an emotional roller coaster. Tragically, my Uncle Mike (aka Bone Daddy) died in a sudden crash and sent our family into utter shock. Saturday, we gathered together and celebrated his life. We all noticed that when we started to become sad about his passing, we always ended up laughing by hearing a hilarious story about his life. He was seriously the life of the party! He owned thousands of crazy party hats, wore tie-dye t-shirts and converse shoes daily, and said often, "It's allll good!" He was that Uncle that would come down in a blow up sumo wrestler outfit at Christmas, or this year Buddy the Elf in red panty hose.

No one likes funerals, but I always take away an amazing sense of value of life, family, and my relationship with Christ. Everything I was worrying about before his death that seemed so important at the time, now became extremely meaningless. I sat around and held the family that I still had, and felt extremely blessed. It stunk that we had to go through something so terrible, but at least we had each other.
Easter came at a perfect time during our loss to remember Jesus' sacrifice and love for us. We celebrated with a BBQ, Easter Egg Hunt, and a Piñata (my favorite!)
Proud Lady
I'm extremely proud of my husband Alex, because he chased his dream and it finally came true. If you know Alex, you know that he's obsessed with Apple, Inc. He pretty much wakes me up every morning with a new Apple fact. Anytime anyone has trouble with their Mac or iPhone, he's the one to call. We own their stock, read their books, and love their products. Now, he can officially say he is an Apple employee. He's applied numerous times this past year, but nothing stuck....but then one day it did. He met the right person at the right liquor tasting (Yes, that's right...we've both gotten our jobs through meeting someone at a liquor tasting). So, if you need a job, I highly recommend you hang around liquor stores ; ) I truly believe that hard work pays off, and Alex works his butt off every day. He would get discouraged sometimes when he tried so hard and nothing good seemed to come out of it, but I always reminded him that we reap what we sow. Be honest, loyal, and loving to people and the Lord will one day bless you. I'm not saying that God is always going to give you exactly you want, but he will bless you in his own way at his perfect timing.
In celebration of Alex's new job, and his 24th birthday we decided to take a quick trip next week. We wanted to go to Mexico, but my passport needs to be renewed, and planning a trip in week can be difficult. So, we're off to Vegas! I have never been a huge fan, and haven't desired to go (except to see Garth Brooks Live) but I'm pretty excited. Unfortunately Garth won't be performing, but you know Celine Dion will...haha, I don't think I could put Alex through that. We booked our trip last night, and watched Vegas Vacation in anticipation. I plan on sitting by the pool most of the day, enjoying a couple of shows, playing the slot machines, and going on a damn tour ; ) Any tips? Must see casinos? Restaurants we can't pass up?

Just a reminder
Alex was sweet enough to take me to the Austin Rodeo last Thursday to see Josh Turner. What a date....me screaming at the top of my lungs, "Take it off! I love you Josh!" Ok, there was no I love you, but I definitely yelled take it off a couple of times. Josh Turner is probably one of my favorite country singers, other than George Straight and Garth Brooks. Yes, I grew up listening to country, and I will forever love it. I actually met George Straight at a high school rodeo that I was working at with my dad when I was 12 years old (Awesome? Yes)!
After screaming through Josh's first few songs, he began to play one of my favorites, Long Black Train. The second that song came on I went from happy hands clapping crazy lady, to teary eyed emotional lady. I hear that song and it reminds me of an exact time in my life...the exact month, the exact days, and where I was when I listened to it over and over again. I went through a rough break-up early in college, and I was growing spiritually and trying to hang on tight to God's word. This song made my journey so much better. I remember bawling in my car singing along, and trying to sing in that low soothing deep voice, haha, definitely wasn't hitting the notes. But it didn't matter because that song meant so much to me, and it brought me such joy and comfort. I love hearing songs on the radio that remind me of a good time in my life, and even the bad times because ultimately I made it through it and everything turned out ok.
