Garage Makeover | Before & After

I've always said, give me one chance on a reality TV show and I'll become a star. Well my chance came AND it didn't happen. I may not be a reality star, but I did get an amazing garage out of it! Read more for a behind the scenes look and before and after photos.

It's officially Spring and all I want to do is clean my house. Well, not really, but I wish it would magically be clean 24/7. A lot of people ask me how I keep my house so clean with small children, and today I've partnered with Wayfair to share a few of my cleaning and organizing secrets!

The Weekender by Lowe's | Garage Makeover Reveal

Back in the early Fall I saw a TV show casting call for first time homeowners in the Austin area who wanted to update a space/room in their home, so you better believe I applied! The application sent by the casting company took me almost two hours to fill out, but in my head I knew it would be worth it if we were chosen. I submitted my living room, garage, and master closet to be considered. We kept moving on to the next round of the process, and I had to submit measurements of our spaces, videos, photos and lots of details of each room. Alex complained (even though he did nothing), and I excitedly kept providing what they needed. We had a Skype call with the casting company, and they sent that video off to the production team that would be shooting the show. As you can guess, they liked us and we were chosen!!!

I'll be posting more behind the scenes details plus before and after photos of the space in another post, but for now here's the final product! Thank you to the East Coast Creative team and Lowe's for giving us our dream garage!

Turner's Bedroom + Decorating With Color

Even though I'm a HUGE fan of color, I've decorated most of my home with neutrals. I do this because when I started decorating I was not great at picking out decor, plus I like being able to easily mix and match pieces.

Turner's bedroom is my exception! The walls and most of his furniture are neutral, but everything else has a pop of color and I love it. His room makes me so happy, and I enjoy spending time reading and playing with him there.

Simple Coffee Table Styling

My living room is where we spend most of our time as a family. We feed babies, wrestle on the floor, watch cartoons, blog, and visit with family and friends in this space. Alex and I had a junky coffee table we bought for $30 over 4 years ago, and I've been looking for the perfect coffee table for the past year.

5 Ways To Beautify Your Yard

I can be easy to get stuck in a rut when it comes to updating your yard, but today I'm here to give you some ideas! You may not have the greenest grass or prettiest plants, but these tips can help give your yard a fresh look.

1. ) CREATE AN INVITING ENVIRONMENT:

I'm blessed to have wonderful neighbors that I enjoy spending time outside with almost every day.  Kids run from yard to yard playing, and often times the adults are searching for a place to sit down and relax.  By setting up a comfy and inviting spot in my front yard, I welcome those moments for conversation and fellowship. These chairs are comfy and modern, and I added a pop of color with this retro side table for drinks and snacks.

One Room Challenge Favorites - Spring '16

It's one of my favorite days of the year! Calling It Home's One Room Challenge Reveal day! Designers get 6 weeks to transform a space (really 5 since the space has to be ready to photograph)! I absolutely love seeing all the ideas people come up with. The best part about the challenge is that most participants aren't interior designers, but simply enjoy this type of project (like me). Having a dead line can really kick you in to shape when it comes to decorating a space! I encourage everyone to participate next fall, even if you aren't a big blogger. Here are some of my favorite reveals this year!

At Home Feature: 5 Tips for Styling Shelves

I recently collaborated with At Home in styling my built-in shelves located in my living room. I was so tired of staring at my decor, but I was stuck in a rut trying to decide what to do with them. The decor hadn't changed since we moved in over 2 years ago. I went with a neutral color scheme so that it would be versatile all year round, and I'm so happy with the final look. Check out my 5 tips for styling shelves on At Home's blog HERE!

Turner's Toddler Bedroom

When Alex and I found out we were having TWINS, I immediately started thinking about transitioning Turner from his crib to a toddler bed. I loved the look of small toddler beds (specifically the Jenny Lind style), but we had a small budget. I moved in a twin bed frame from our guest bedroom (removed the box spring) and voila....he loved it! He was 2 1/2 at the time, and wasn't crawling out of his crib at all. Thankfully the transition was quite easy.

We didn't change up much when going from a nursery to a "big boy room". We kept the glider, frames, but took out the changing table and added a dresser (our largest purchase). There isn't really a theme to the room, other than a few bits and pieces of our travels. I incorporated a London Bus Bank from Alex's childhood and a $10 world map from Ikea.  We had thrifted the large red "T" before Turner was even before, so I was elated to finally hang it on the wall! I'm usually not a fan of red, but it works in Turner's room, especially with the sock monkey quilt hand made by Turner's great grandmother.

His closet is still a work in process, but we have a vintage basket for laundry, metal baskets for different types of toys (trying to teach him organization), and space for wipes/diapers (because we are still in the process of potty training). We also store extra books and shoes in the closet. Maybe one day I'll show you photos ; )

One Room Challenge: Twin Nursery {Week 1}

Today is the One Room Challenge kick off! I'm excited to show you BEFORE photos of my guest bedroom which will be turned in to Walt and Whitney's twin nursery. I still can't believe I'm actually going to have two babies....eek! I know I'm going to be spending A LOT of time in their nursery so I want to make the space calming and relaxing. Having a boy and a girl makes decorating a bit more difficult, but being a neutral loving gal, choosing to go with a gender neutral nursery was an easy choice!

Room details: Unfortunately this room only has one window and it doesn't get much light (I apologize for the bad photos, the final reveal photos will be much better!). We put a fan in the room a few months back because my husband is ALWAYS hot and wanted a fan in every room of the house. There goes my dreams of having a cute chandelier or pendant in the room : (.  The color of the room is Sherwin Williams Passive Gray, which almost every other room in my house is that color. I will not be repainting, because I hate painting and the color is neutral enough.  I painted the inside of the closet a few months back, but the door is super annoying. Maybe I'll change it out?

I hope you come along with me on my 6 week design journey! Follow me on Instagram for more photos and check out my last post for nurseries that are inspiring me.

One Room Challenge: Twin Nursery

I am SO excited to be participating in Calling It Home's popular One Room Challenge this fall! The timing is perfect as I begin to decorate for Walt and Whitney's twin nursery, and it gives me a 6 week deadline to have it done. The anxiety of having these babies much earlier due to a twin pregnancy is much more real, so it will be refreshing to have the nursery done by the time I'm 28 weeks and before the holidays.  The challenge officially starts a week from today on October 8 and lasts for 6 weeks. Every week I will give you a sneak peek into their nursery and take you through my design process along the way. On November 11 I will show you the transformation in a BIG REVEAL post, so stay tuned!

I'm dreaming of an eclectic and gender neutral nursery for boy/girl twins. Here are some nurseries that have sparked my inspiration!

The PERFECT Shade of Gray Paint

When I set out to paint my ENTIRE house, the task of choosing paint seemed daunting. However, I found a trick, choosing one paint swatch and using it throughout my entire home. After testing out tons of gray paints from Sherwin-Williams, I fell in LOVE with the color PASSIVE.  I decided to paint my kitchen and living room in this color, because it was light and had a cool undertone.

Now, the dilemma...I love color, but I never wanted to paint again so I had to choose a neutral color for the rest of the house.  Once I painted my living room and kitchen Passive, I was sold on the color and decided to paint the guest bedrooms and hallway the same color.

For my guest bathroom, I stuck with the same paint swatch but went two shades darker to GRAY MATTERS. Loved it!

When painting my master bathroom and bedroom, I wanted the color to be very light (almost white), so I went to the lightest shade on the paint swatch and used NEBULOUS WHITE. Ahhh! I'm obsessed. It's very light, but has a tiny hint of gray with a blueish undertone, so my white doors and trim still pop. It made my bathroom feel like a spa by giving it that light and refreshing feel, and it makes the room feel much bigger.

Now, NOT every room in my entire house is gray. My laundry room was painted using Sherwin-Williams SEA SALT.
