Photographer for hire

Ok, so my husband is tired of taking pictures of me already, and I really hate tripods. So, with this being said I might have to take a break from outfit photos for a while, or atleast until my semester from hell is over. I will post a few, but just not as many. You don't want to see what I wear to my night classes anyway, sweatshirt + jeans.

Cherry red

Do you ever have one of those days where you are just dying to buy something? A few days ago, I experienced one of those days. Pinterest and fashion blogs don't help my addiction to shopping, or my Dave Ramsey budget. My excuse for going to Target/Old Navy was that I needed to buy a gift for a friend. Which I really did, but that was what I was telling myself even though I knew I really wanted to buy something for myself. Luckily and upsettingly Old Navy literally had nothing I wanted in my size, and by the time I got to Target my desire to try on clothes was gone. I opted for a cherry icee (I'm obsessed with Icees, very nutritious) and a pretzel instead, which was a much better decision. I think God was telling me to step away from the clothes.

Back to school

Well, today is my first day of my last semester of grad school….unless I want to be called “Dr. Coulter” one day.  My schedule includes Managerial Economics, Entrepreneurial Strategy, and Quantitative Research Methods.  Working full time + full time grad school is a task, but I have never been more ready to be done with school! I can’t wait for the day that I don’t have school in the back of my mind.

I was really going for the Lloyd Christmas look from Dumb & Dumber here.

Yes, those are braids in my brother's hair as well as mine. Sorry Nacona & Wesley : )

Stay in school

Hope is now on the grind, working 8-5 like the rest of us graduates. I want to shake the incoming freshman at HSU like Billy Madison, and say "Stay in school as long as possible!"  I guess it is wise to graduate on time when it comes to money, but man the real world stinks sometimes.

Fashion Forward

Meet my style icon. I believe style begins at your roots, and thankfully my mother had impeccable style. She has a natural and casual beauty about her, and her style is simple yet sophisticated.  I love it when I wear a pair of platforms, and she tells me she used to have a pair that looked exactly the same but made out of snake skin. Ah, I wish she would have saved some of her amazing clothes for me.

I tried to wear her wedding dress for my big day, but it was way too tiny. I absolutely love the hood, and it was detachable.

She was hippie, raised on a farm that married a cowboy. Love her short hair.

My go to outfit as a child - Paint blotted spandex one piece, blue jean skirt, and a pair of pink dyed cowboy boots. Thanks mom for always letting me dress myself, even if I looked absolutely crazy. You taught me what it truly means to have my own style.

Dancing Shoes

Best Christmas present ever. That’s how I felt when I got these boots from my aunt a few years ago.  She found them at a vintage shop in Austin, and I am absolutely in love.  They fit perfectly, and are probably the prettiest pair of boots I’ve ever owned.  In Texas you always need a pair of boots, a pair for dancing and a pair for riding/getting dirty. The heels and ostrich leather on these boots make them my dancing boots.

Camera shy

Hello dream home.  I have wanted to take pics in front of this gorgeous house for a while now, and when we finally went to the front door a man stepped out to walk his dog. I quickly ran away, and Alex decided to have a 10 minute conversation with him about his home (My husband likes to talk to random people). It's a historic home that has actually been divided into two seperate apartments.  I was way too embarrassed to take pictures right in front of this man, but Alex would not let me leave. Akward. I'm not one of those people that can pose in front of anyone at any time. I stalled for about 5 min. till the man went back inside.

Cowboy Wkd

This past weekend Alex and I went to my hometown to attend the Pleasanton Cowboy Homecoming. Alex and my brother-in- law competed in the BBQ Cookoff, and they won 3rd place in brisquet, 11th in chicken and 14th in ribs out of around 40 teams.

My sister and I ran a 5k with my niece. This was the first time I've ever run and pushed a stroller....it was pretty rough.

The best part of the weekend was getting to hang out with my girls, especially Ella who just turned 1. Living 5 hours apart is no fun.

Thank heaven

"Thank heaven for little girls." Nothing makes me happier than a weekend with my 4 nieces (aka "The Storm"). I called them the storm when there were just 2 and now there are 4...and possibly 1 more in the future. Yeah I know, my sister is crazy, but she sure does make beautiful girls.

They love their Uncle Al.

They also give me an excuse to play dress up.  I've already started my dress up collection for my future girls, or one terrified little boy.

Hope - Outfit #5

I think Hope is getting used to me dragging her out into 100 degree heat and making her pose.  She might deny it, but she loves my bossy ways.  We are working on a project together that I think y'all might enjoy. Stay tuned for the big announcement.

Fail

Thank you Pinterest for making me think I could cook. Well, I tried to make Nutella cupcakes since I'm obsessed with Nutella and they didn't turn out like the picture.

My Nutella Cupcakes

And they didn't taste that great either.

If you want to try out this recipe, make sure you have a skewer stick to stir in the nutella. I used the end of a spoon and it didn't work out so well.

1/4 cup butter, at room temperature
1/4 cup canola or mild vegetable oil
3/4 cup sugar
3 large eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 cup all purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4-1/2 cup Nutella, at room temperature

Preheat the oven to 325F.
In a medium bowl, beat the butter, oil and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add the eggs and vanilla and beat until smooth.
In a small bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder and salt; add to the butter mixture and beat on low speed just until combined. The batter will be thick. It needs to be in order to swirl in the Nutella!
Divide the batter between 12 paper-lined muffin cups. Drop a spoonful of Nutella on top of each, and swirl through the batter with the tip of a bamboo skewer, knife or other pointy object. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until springy to the touch.

NY Shopping

Before heading to NY, I knew I should probably save a bit of money specifically for shopping since everyone says clothing is much more expensive. Well, it’s only expensive if you shop at Bloomingdales or get sucked in to the Louis Vuitton craze. I shopped mainly at H&M, Forever 21, and Zara (Sale rack).  My top and skirt here were both under $20 a piece. I ended up spending that extra money at restaurants, because the menus didn’t inform me how much a flippin’ salad was. Let’s just say when the bill came, I was not pleasantly surprised.

Stand up straight

The first thing Alex said when he saw me wearing this top/cardigan thing was…”It looks like something a grandma would wear.” Well thank you.  I have actually been called a “grandma” quite a few times in my past. I naturally hunch over, so when playing high school soccer and running track I might have been called that quite a few times. My mom also told me over and over again as a teenager to “Stand up straight”, and that was also her advice to me the first time I showed her my blog.  I hope I can straighten out my back before I shrink to 5’2”. Sitting at a desk all day really doesn’t help , but my new found love for yoga might.

Let's dance

Because it's Friday! It's hard going back to work after a long and relaxing vacation, but now I have the weekend to unpack and get control of my house. I had a dream last night that Alex shot a mouse with a shotgun in the middle of our living room. Hmmm? I definitely think I should do some cleaning.
