January Small Goals

Recently, I've been asked what my New Year's Resolutions are, and I respond "I don't make yearly goals but rather small monthly goals". I started writing monthly goals almost a year ago, and they have made a major impact on my life. Each month I'll set 5 goals, and try my best to complete them. One goal can be as simple as book a dentist appointment, and some can be more complex. I try to do a little of both.

In December I completed 5 out of 5 goals. See what I accomplished and what I'm planning for in January!

DECEMBER GOALS

1. SHOOT YOUTUBE CONTENT
Not only did I shoot two videos, I actually learned how to edit them on my own! This task was honestly daunting in my head, but it took Alex 30 minutes to teach me how to edit a video using iMovie. Not the best editing software, but it's free! My first video was all about our family Christmas in my hometown.

2. PLAN WALT & WHITNEY'S 2ND BIRTHDAY
Booked Walt and Whitney's party at Catch Air in Round Rock! No formal invites, simply made a Facebook invite for family and our neighbors. When it comes to preparing for the party, I bought plates and napkins and will just need to buy balloons, drinks and dessert. I ordered pizza through Catch Air and it will be delivered at the time of the party.

I also planned a fun 2nd birthday photo shoot with my friend, Mckenzie Coronado, for this Saturday and I'm so excited! We'll be shooting at Pearl Snap Hall in Georgetown, and it's going to be a shoot full of color!

3. GIVE BACK
Turner and I took a trip to Target and Dollar Tree and purchased all sorts of fun Christmas goodies and then filled a big bankers box and wrapped it for a family affected by abuse. Unfortunately I was super late in dropping the box off, and didn't get it to the non profit organization till December 22. Hopefully they were able to give it to a family in need.

4. BUY A FULL LENGTH MIRROR
I'm currently working on a mini-makeover of my master bedroom due to a collaboration with Mohawk Flooring (reveal hopefully coming by the end of January). It was the perfect time to add a full length mirror in my bedroom, and it's fun sharing my outfits. I bought this mirror for $50!

5. REFLECT
The days leading up to the one year anniversary of my father's passing were harder than the actual day. I spent December 14 with my mom and Turner in my hometown, and it was nice to relax. We had lunch with my sister to celebrate her graduating with her masters, and we kept it low key the rest of the day. My friend, Katie, hand painted a beautiful watercolor of my dad and I gave it to my mother. I love the painting so much, because it's one of the last photos I have of my dad and he was in his element. Out at the barn in the heat of a Texas summer working with his horses and showing Turner around.

 JANUARY GOALS

1. NO SHOPPING
I've made quite a few spur of the moment purchases lately (this jumpsuit and dress), and I want to pump the brakes for the new year and take a good look at everything I have. I don't need anything for the duration of the winter, and I would rather save my money and spend on spring clothes. It won't be cold in Texas much longer anyway! I DID shop Dillard's New Years Day sale but that was for clothes/shoes for Alex and my kids. SUCH GOOD DEALS the crowds are worth it to me. I'm a shop till you drop kind of girl anyway ; ).

2. FINISH MY CHARLESTON GUIDE
I've been dragging my feet writing my Charleston Travel Guide after my trip in November, and that's partly due to having SO much I want to write about. I want to get it posted this month!

3. EDIT MY 2ND YOUTUBE VIDEO
I want to continue to learn more about editing YouTube videos, as well as brainstorm different ideas for content! My next video to edit will be about how I make money blogging (I filmed it in my closet almost a month ago). Maybe one day I'll invest in some nice lighting gear.

4. DECLUTTER
I took my Christmas decor down two days after Christmas and I have enjoyed a clean slate. I want to go through toys, clothes, and kitchenware and make a trip to Goodwill. I want to list a few more items on Poshmark, and take some kids clothes to a local second hand store to sell. I also want to buy some vacuum-seal bags and pack up the vintage dresses in my closet to save for Whitney.

5. PRINT FAMILY PHOTOS & START WORKING ON OUR FAMILY YEARBOOK
I haven't printed off family photos in over a year, and I would like to frame a few of our recent photos. My living room frames have photos of newborns and my nieces from 3 years ago. I usually order high quality prints from mpix. I've been creating a family yearbook since 2014 using Shutterfly, and even though we rarely look at them I know one day I'll be so thankful I have them. Here is a look in to our 2016 yearbook!

I had a few more I wanted to include, but I don't want to get too ambitious so I'll save those for February! If you've never tried setting monthly small goals, I strongly encourage you to try it just once and see how you like it! You can link up with Nicole here and see what others are doing!
