Easter 2015

We headed south this past weekend to celebrate Easter and enjoy a relaxing weekend with family. We did just that.  We spent lots of time outside, enjoyed an Easter service, smashed lots of cascarones, hunted Easter eggs, and ate a ton. Turner's favorite part of his Easter basket was his new motorcycle, and he wanted nothing to do with the egg hunt. I think he's still on a jelly bean high. I hope you had a great weekend!

The face after my bro smashed a cascarone on my head...Uly was not amused.

Easter Weekend 2014

We enjoyed a wonderful Easter weekend with family up north.  My in-laws mandatory bluebonnet pictures were on the agenda, as well as an egg hunt just for Turner.  Saturday the weather was absolutely perfect so after photos and ice cream, we did some antique shopping on the town square.  I bought a cowboy hat, a white porcelain vase and a few other knick knacks. I'm definitely in my element when treasure hunting, and I absolutely love the hunt for unique items to decorate our new home.  Sunday, we attended Alex's church he grew up in, and had a giant Easter meal following.  We headed back to Austin later that afternoon and were stuck in I-35 traffic most of the way. I loathe you I-35. It's great to be back home in my comfy bed, but I'm sad to see the weekend go.

I hope you had a wonderful Easter! Do you have any special Easter traditions? Growing up my Mom always gave me a stuffed bunny rabbit and a Peter the rabbit book to make a large collection.  I gave Turner his first bunny, and it is the softest stuffed animal on the planet.  He absolutely loves it.

Baby's First Everything

It's always fun celebrating another FIRST for Turner, but I look forward to the age when he actually gets excited for holidays.  I'm going to be one of those moms that goes all out.  Although, I'm kind of against giving kids a bunch of toys for Easter. Isn't it just like Christmas all over again to them?  I'm going to stick with easter themed candy, eggs and bunnies.

What do you put in your kiddo's Easter baskets?

Worth The Wait

When I tell people I gave up chocolate for Lent, I usually hear, "Wait, you're not Catholic." Well, no I'm not, but I still participate in Lent.  For me, Lent is a wonderful way to celebrate Christ and his sacrifice for all humanity.  Sometimes I feel Christmas sneaks up on me, not the presents and Santa part, but the actual Jesus was born on this day part.  I focus so much on the nostalgic/non-Christian parts of Christmas, that on Christmas morning I have to stop myself and say, "Why am I celebrating this day? Why am I giving my friends and family an abundant amount of presents?"

Easter however is the complete opposite.  For 40 days I starve myself of a desire that I usually don't go a day without.  This year it was chocolate.  I didn't think it would be that hard, but after about 4 hours, I realized it was going to be a LONG 40 days.  I was extremely blessed to hear from my 7 year old niece that she was giving up candy.  What? You know what lent is, AND you're giving up the one thing you eat every day.  What an admirable thing for a 7 year old to do.  Everytime I reached for a piece of chocolate or my favorite Tiff's treats chocolate chip cookie, I thought, "Ugh, No. I gave up chocolate for lent." For that split second I complained, but then I instantly internalized why I made that decision.  For me, having the Lord on my mind through out the day, and being reminded of him was worth the sacrifice. Also, it was a great way to share my faith with my co-workers.

This Easter weekend I'm going to thank Jesus for his love, death and sacrifice, and then I'm going to eat my weight in Reese's peanut butter eggs.

If you practice Lent, what did you give up or possibly do? How hard was the sacrifice?

Grateful

This past weekend was an emotional roller coaster.  Tragically, my Uncle Mike (aka Bone Daddy) died in a sudden crash and sent our family into utter shock.  Saturday, we gathered together and celebrated his life.  We all noticed that when we started to become sad about his passing, we always ended up laughing by hearing a hilarious story about his life.  He was seriously the life of the party! He owned thousands of crazy party hats, wore tie-dye t-shirts and converse shoes daily, and said often, "It's allll good!" He was that Uncle that would come down in a blow up sumo wrestler outfit at Christmas, or this year Buddy the Elf in red panty hose.

Christmas 2011

No one likes funerals, but I always take away an amazing sense of value of life, family, and my relationship with Christ.  Everything I was worrying about before his death that seemed so important at the time, now became extremely meaningless.  I sat around and held the family that I still had, and felt extremely blessed.  It stunk that we had to go through something so terrible, but at least we had each other.

Easter came at a perfect time during our loss to remember Jesus' sacrifice and love for us.  We celebrated with a BBQ, Easter Egg Hunt, and a Piñata (my favorite!)
