March Small Goals

This past weekend at the Thrive Conference, Emma from A Beautiful Mess, spoke about the power of goal making. She credited setting measurable goals as her #1 trait of being boss (not just a real boss, but being bad a*# in general). I also love reading Nicole and Chelsea's monthly goals posts, so I thought I would join in and share with you my small goals for March. I hope to continue this for the rest of the year.

Family Yoga @ The Little Yoga House

This past weekend Turner and I went to our first yoga class together at The Little Yoga House's newest location in North Austin.  We participated in the Family Yoga class, and I loved it! The focus was "kids first, grown-ups second", and our instructor emphasized the class was all about connecting and having fun with your child.  We did partner poses, group poses, silly flowing sequences and yoga games!

Blogger Night Out @ The Domain

A few days ago I hosted a VIP Blogger Event at Viva Day Spa to celebrate their Grand Opening at the Domain. It was an absolute blast although I didn't get to chat too much with my blogger babes, because everyone was in and out getting services (massages, facials, mani/pedis, laser hair removal and Dysport injections).

Swing Tee + Denim

I recently found this swing tee from Old Navy and have been wearing it non stop! It's been triple digits almost every day here in Austin, so a loose tee is a must. I rolled out of bed and put this outfit together...loose boyfriend jeans, neutral tee, flip flops and a straw hat to cover up my bed head.

Favorite One Piece Swim Suits

I've never been one to buy a one piece, mostly because I'm a bit too long, but one pieces have really upped their game over the years. You add cute one pieces and a postpartum belly and I'm sold. Here are some of my favorite one pieces this season!

Tell me, have you found the holy grail of one pieces? I would love to know!

Vent Blotique + Giveaway

I've discovered my new favorite thing, professional blowouts! Before becoming a mom I wouldn't mind spending 2 hours doing my hair before an event or party (washing, drying, straightening and then curling). These days I do NOT have time to spare, so having my hair done at Vent Blotique in less than an hour and it look AMAZING is totally worth the price in my book! I enjoy getting my hair done on Monday and not having to do it for the rest of the week.  My blowouts will last 4 days thanks to dry shampoo! Kids, work, cooking dinner and cleaning are all things on my to-do list, so not having to spend time doing my hair saves me time and sanity. PLUS I feel better about myself because my hair actually looks good which makes me feel like a million bucks.

These sinks are seriously the best! They swivel so you don't have to strain your neck.

How cute are the hair dryers that come down from the ceiling? Such a fun idea.

They recently opened up two locations, Cedar Park and Round Rock. The atmosphere is wonderful and the stylists are very talented!

I wanted to make sure my hair looked good for the ATX Blogger Mixer a few weeks ago, but I did not have time to do my hair with my first week back at work. So, what did I do? Had my hair done at Vent Blotique during my lunch hour! It took less time and my hair looked much better than if I tried to do it myself. I also used that time to write some emails and relax! Here I am feeling good : )

Austin Fashion Week 2016 Recap

I was super excited to get a few free nights last week to attend Austin Fashion Week (thanks to Alex and my Mom for watching the kiddos)! I had just gone back to work so I didn't have a lot of extra time to get my hair done so I had a blowout at Vent Blotique and it lasted both nights I attended. What's funny is that unintentionally before each show I had burgers. The last thing I wanted to be was hungry at a fashion show. Who cares about the food baby ruining my figure anyway.

Both nights I saw amazing collections by project runway stars and local designers. Some of my favorites were Lindsey Creel and Katie Kime. I sipped on prosecco from the event sponsor, Chloe Wine Collection, and I couldn't stop staring at all the beautiful and unique outfits the attendees were wearing. It was a people watcher's dream! Night one I chatted with a lot of my fellow Austin bloggers, and night two my beautiful neighbor, Olivia, joined me. It was a great Mom's night out, and a few people were in shock when we told them how many kids we have. We still got it girl!

Thank you to Fashion X Austin and Pom PR for another great event! Here's to next year!

Tapatio Springs Resort Weekend + A Giveaway!

A few weeks ago Alex, Turner and I headed south to Boerne, TX to spend the weekend at Tapatio Springs, a hill country resort and spa.  It was a great getaway and only a short 2 hour drive from Austin. It was just what we needed for a short family vacation.  We spent most of our time in the pool, and if we weren't in the pool we were hanging out outside. It's nestled in the TX Hill Country so it's quiet and you are surrounded by trees.

Tapatio Springs’ new $1 million pool and bar area features an expanded pool deck, curved-tube water slide, hot tub, fire pits, shuffleboard courts and an outdoor bar with flat-screen televisions. Turner went down that slide over 100 times by himself. To say he was obsessed is an understatement.

The best PB&J we've ever had....double stacked with local TX strawberry jam!

After we showered and relaxed a bit in our room, we headed to the resort's restaurant, La Cascada.  The food and ambience were amazing, but Turner was a stinker. He did NOT want to sit still, so we had no shame in trying to entertain him with our phones. We enjoyed steak, chicken, cheese grits, brussel sprouts and an amazing cheese plate!

Prior to going to Tapatio Springs, we found out George Strait was the co-owner so we jammed out to his music the entire drive.  When we arrived at the resort, Turner kept asking where George Strait was...I was hoping we would see him too! Sadly, he wasn't there that weekend, but we did get to stare at this great wall covered in George Strait memorabilia. After dinner we headed out to the patio to enjoy live music, and Turner went crazy running around in the grass. It's like he'd never seen a field before.

Sunday morning we headed back to the restaurant for breakfast, and had a lovely view of the golf course while sitting on the patio. Maybe the only good thing about an early rising toddler is that we had the patio all to ourselves. Alex and I didn't get a chance to golf, but they have an amazing course!

After breakfast we headed back to the pool for a few more hours before hitting the road. While Alex and Turner swam, I checked out the Puresol Spa, which had an amazing therapeutic Salt Cave. I spent 30 minutes by myself napping inside...just what this mom in her first trimester needed.

It was a short and sweet mini vacation, and I highly recommend checking it out! Great for families, romantic getaways, a girls weekend and more. It's much more affordable than other resorts in Texas, and the quaint town of Boerne is only a ten minute drive away. Boerne has a historic downtown and a ton of antique shops (my favorite kind of shopping)!

Now to the best part. I'm very excited to be hosting a GIVEAWAY of a 1 Night Stay for 4 (including complimentary meals) and 4 tickets to Six Flags Fiesta Texas to one lucky winner! Please enter using the Rafflecopter entry form below. Good luck!

4 Reasons We Decided to Buy a Minivan

Well, we bought a van.  I NEVER thought I would say those words, but you know...you grow up and life gets real. Our van is definitely not the prettiest or coolest vehicle in the neighborhood, but hey it's a blessing to be able to even have a car. We experienced not having a single car for one day and it was a nightmare.

2007 Toyota Sienna
Below are 4 reasons we decided to buy a van.

1.) Budget
  • We have never had a car payment during our marriage of 5 years, so in our car search we wanted an affordable vehicle that we could pay cash for. Unfortunately, we hadn't been saving for a car, so we only had the $6,000 we received from our insurance company for the value of Alex's camry. We are Dave Ramsey fans and had been living debt free, but this time around we did get a small loan. We're hoping to pay it off by the end of the year.
  • Most people would buy an SUV or wagon if they needed a larger vehicle, but if you are really comparing prices, vans are much cheaper. Yes, I would love to drive an SUV over a boring minivan, but sacrificing looking cool for peace of mind is completely worth it.
2.) Growing Family
  • We would like to add to our family very soon and space is a must. We take lots of trips to visit family (4 hours north for my in-laws, 2 hours south for my family), and a van is perfect for road trips! The van has a DVD player with 2 headsets which is one of my favorite features.
  • Right after we purchased the vehicle and were about to drive it off the loft, I noticed Turner had a dirty diaper. Cue the giant trunk. I laid him in the back and had a perfect place to lay him out and change his diaper. It felt like such a luxury compared to changing his diaper in the front seat of our car.
3.) My husband is huge and needs leg space
  • Alex is very tall, and can't drive comfortably with a car seat behind his seat. This isn't the reason we bought a van, but it was the reason we crossed sedans off the list of potential vehicles.
4.) We have a woodworking business & I love thrifting furniture
  • We run a small woodworking business, BuiltWell, and make lots of trips to Lowe's & Home Depot for wood. Thankfully up until this point, our gracious neighbors have let us borrow their truck. Alex's dream is to own a truck, but a 4 door truck just wasn't in our budget at this time. A van was the next best thing that had large trunk space and seats that folded down.
  • I am ecstatic that I can FINALLY pick up those random pieces of furniture I see on the side of the road! Alex on the other hand, not so excited.

There you have it! Now, I totally get it if you aren't a minivan fan. It's not for everyone, but it is just what our family needed at moment in our lives.

Do you own a minivan? Are you for them or against them?

#JESSECOULTER - No. 11

I'm finally getting used to wearing a hat....kind of. I'm not used to seeing myself in hats so it's weird.  Do you wear hats? I definitely think people should wear them more often. Perfect for bad hair days and good for keeping the sun off your face.

What are your plans this weekend? Tonight I'm heading to a friends apartment to hang out by the pool with the family. Saturday, I'm hitting up BodyPump super early, heading to the Personify Austin blogger brunch downtown, and then working on some home projects the rest of the weekend. I'll also be taking over HomeRight's Instagram for the weekend, so follow along for some paint tips, DIY projects and decor inspiration.

My fav ASOS peplum tee is from last season, and unfortunately isn't being sold anymore, but I've linked a few similar peplum tees below.

3rd ATX Blogger Mixer

A few weeks ago Erica and I hosted the 3rd ATX Blogger Mixer.  It took a bit more planning with this event due to the need for a large private space, but it was worth it!  Cover 3 Downtown on 6th hosted us, and spoiled us with amazing food and drinks. We were expecting just a few appetizers, but the plates kept coming...Seared Ahi Tuna, Parmesan Fries,  Brick Chicken Mac-N-Cheese (Spicy and AMAZING....I'm obsessed), Jumbo North Atlantic Scallops, Salmon, Beef Tenderloin Sliders, Brownies and more! We also sipped on wine and specialty cocktails (try the Strawberry Basil Lemonade).

We had some amazing giveaways from Chelsea Laine Francis Photography (mini photo session), Blue Elephant Boutique ($75 gift card), Lauren Jade Martin (custom illustration), Maggie Villamaria (necklace & bracelets). Thank you again ladies!

Jess Lively was our wonderful speaker, and I feel that many of us related to her message of finding our purpose. I asked Jess to speak because I knew she would inspire and encourage us, which she did! Check out her weekly podcast to be motivated and inspired every week.

After the event we headed over to the Stitch Fix Rooftop party on Congress. We ate more, styled some fun pieces of clothing and met up with more bloggers!

Thank you to all the ladies who attended our event! Erica and I are already planning the next mixer, and this time we promise to have a large space so everyone can attend. Stay tuned for details!
