Life Lately

The cold weather is slowing and spring is upon us! I'm sharing an update on all things work, kids, shopping and travel.

Style in Color

A year ago I had a personal color analysis done and it changed the way I dress and specifically the colors I choose. Today I'm sharing some recent outfits plus an update on my 24 Buys in 2024 shopping challenge!

My FAVORITE Scarf

If you didn't know I now have a new tab at the top of my blog titled INSTAGRAM SHOP. There you can see all the outfits I post to Instagram because sometimes those outfits won't make a full blog post. P.S. This scarf is seriously the BEST! It's uber soft, big and comfy, has pom poms on the bottom and is only $24.50. Get it HERE!

The Perfect Family Photo Outfit

I have a secret for moms out there with small children when taking family photos. Wear jeans! You will be bending over, swinging, squatting, lifting and playing. You will be doing a lot of sitting...sitting on beds, sitting on blankets, sitting on chairs, sitting on benches. You get it, lots of sitting! Unless you're wearing a long dress or shorts, I've found that jeans are the easiest for photos. Or if you hate jeans, pants are an option. The darker the pants/jeans the more slimming they will be. Instead of worrying about flashing the camera, you can worry about wrangling your children to smile for a dang photo. Check out more tips about family photo outfits below!

Must Have Vacation Shoe: Tevas

Almost a year ago Alex and I went on amazing kid-less vacation to Hawaii. I shopped for months for the perfect shoe for exploring, and to this day my Tevas are still my favorite shoe for summer vacations. They are perfect for exploring the water, hiking, and more. The best part is they are cute enough to transition from outdoor exploring to site seeing. Throw on a sundress and your good to go!

Austin Fashion Week: Discovery Runway Show

It was my first time to attend a runway show last Thursday, and Austin Fashion Week did not disappoint.  I had a front row seat with my girl Emilie, and absolutely loved seeing the work of up and coming designers.  The rain thankfully stopped right before the event, and I wore my favorite new skort....so comfy.

Top: Vince Camuto. Skort: Abercrombie and Fitch (only $20 right now). Wedges: DV by Dolce Vita via Nordstrom.

Designer Tinsley Radix - Obsessed with the sequin dress!

Mysterious by NPN
My favorite designer of the night was Mysterious by NPN. Loved the gorgeous gowns and how the hats increased in size with each model.
After the show, we headed upstairs to the VIP area and scarfed our face in THE MOST amazing desserts. Macarons, cream puffs, petit fours, cake balls, chocolate covered oreos, mini eclairs and more...ahhh, sugar coma.

#JESSECOULTER - No. 4

You can see through the progression of my outfits below that it's warming up quite a bit in Texas, and I'm LOVING it! Bring on the heat. I'll take a 100 degree day any day over the cold. I'm currently online window shopping for Spring, specifically my trip to Hawaii in June.  I've never been one to enjoy bathing suit shopping, but this year I'm going to invest. I've worn the same bathing suit since my honeymoon almost 5 years ago.

#JESSECOULTER - No. 3

It's been quiet around here the past few weeks. To say I've been sick is an understatement.   I had the flu twice, a respiratory infection, and food poisoning all within a month. Urgent care knows my face too well. I'm so ready to feel 100% again. With that being said, my uniform has been sweatpants most days.  I'm over winter, and already online window shopping for spring. It's supposed to be in the upper 70's this weekend in Austin, so you bet my Birkenstocks will be making an appearance.

#JesseCoulter - No. 2

Here's another round of #JesseCoulter outfit posts from Instagram. Lots of selfies going on here people....I apologize, but you do what you have to do to get that outfit photo ; ).

**Attention!** It would be a crime if I don't tell you about my favorite jeans. The Mid-Rise Super Skinny Rockstar Jeans from Old Navy are AMAZING! They are skinny in the calf so they tuck easily in to boots. They are stretchy yet firm so they hold everything in. I love where they hit on my waistline which is right at my belly button, and the spandex makes them extremely comfortable. I could wear them all day, every day. The best part....they are affordable! Their regular price is $34.95, but Old Navy runs a sale constantly (today they are 25% off, so they would only cost you a little over $26).

True Story: I was raving about these jeans to my co-workers, and told them they must grab a pair. Some replied I was skinny, and they didn't think the jeans would look good on them. I told them not to worry, and to try them out. Sure enough, a week later we were all wearing the same jeans!

#JesseCoulter - No. 1

I was inspired by Jen's #jlkeverdaystyle Instagram posts to start taking more everyday outfit photos with my phone.  It takes much more time to shoot outside, and is hard to do with the time change.  Alex can now snap a quick pick on my iPhone. My glamorous backdrop....our master bathroom. You can find my outfits on Instagram under the hashtag #JesseCoulter.

Non Stop Weekend

Sunday I put this outfit on at 7am. That is very early for me to get dressed up, but honestly I was tired of wearing jeans and baggy t-shirts all weekend.  The second I got home I changed right back in to my shorts & tee, but it was nice to get dressed up for a change.

What were you up to this weekend?

Friday we volunteered to babysit our neighbors kids.  We have an amazing babysitting swap deal (whoo hoo for free babysitting).

Saturday I worked a bit of overtime, and we did a lot of housework/fall decorating.  Turner and I had a date to Target, and he fell in love with my favorite pretzel/icee combo.  Have you been to Target lately? Oh my goodness, they have some extremely cute halloween decorations right now at very reasonable prices (cheaper than most craft stores).  I'm prepping for Turner's 2nd birthday party which will be Halloween themed (I'd call it Modern Halloween), and then we'll be throwing a big Halloween party 2 weeks later.  Thankfully, I'll be able to reuse most of the decorations...win win.  We ended the night at a friends bbq.

Sunday we visited a new church, made homemade pizza, watched a lot of football, and worked on some BuiltWell projects.  I sanded and primed the rocking chair you see behind me in this picture.

After Work Style

Everyday after I get off of work, I come home and throw on a pair of blue jean or work out shorts, a sports bra, and a comfy tee.  For the next 3 hours I'll be playing with Turner (mostly outside and it is HOT here). I bought these metallic silver Birkenstocks about a month ago in anticipation for our upcoming trip to California.  I was looking for a casual yet comfy walking shoe, and these are perfect. They have formed to my feet, and I wear them every day after I get home.  I think my style may be getting too casual, because last weekend I wore them on our date night with friends.  I just never want to take them off.  Do you have a pair? If so, what do you think?

Simple Summer Style

Meet the softest tank you will ever wear. You can dress it up like I did here, or wear jeans and converse with it and it would be just as cute.  I'm a sucker for simple tops and neutrals, and periodically I have to stop myself from buying so much gray. Check out Everlane for some amazing basic pieces that are high quality and won't break the bank.

Every Day Cardigan

I have been living in this cardigan! Not only is it super comfy, but it's extremely warm.  I found it at Ross for $20, and w/ a $15 gift card I walked out with a steal.

I'm at home with a sick baby today.  Day care kicked him out for running a fever.  They've also kicked him out for the stomach bug, strep throat and pink eye.  Dear day care, I think you're the problem.

Pink Shoes & A Trip to Target

Y'all...I have been to Target almost every night this week.  In my defense, I've been on the hunt for these bar stools (trying to return for a different size), and sure enough they are completely sold out.  But of course I had to make my way slowly around the entire store touching everything as I walk by all while eating my soft pretzel and drinking an icee (that's my happy place).  Anyway, I was in shock at how many cute pieces they had for fall.  Here are a few items I tried on, and who knew my hot pink flats would go with everything.  I ended up walking away with nothing, but if any of these go on sale, they're mine!

Have you made a fabulous Target purchase lately? If so, what did you get? I'd love to see! Next week I'll show you some more of my favorite pieces from Target!
