I think it's extremely important to continue learning throughout your life. Whether that is picking up an instrument, crafting, trying out a new workout, learning a new language, or practicing a new skill. Your brain, body and overall life can only benefit from learning. This year I'm intently focusing on spending less $ on material items and more $ on experiences such as learning a new skill.

I took my first brush lettering workshop hosted by Mint & Maple a few weeks ago, and absolutely loved getting to create. In my crazy world I often feel like I don't have time to craft, but I set aside a few hours this night and let go. My goal was to have fun, relax and enjoy getting to know other women around me. I was pleasantly surprised I actually made something cute, as I have the WORST handwriting, but Natalie was a great teacher!
Now let's get to the funny part. When I first entered the class the room was beautifully set up, and there was food and wine in the kitchen. I grabbed some snacks, sat down at my seat, and began to drink water out of a large mason jar in front of me. At one point I noticed it had small bits of paint on the sides, but I thought...eh, this is an artsy studio so maybe that's the vibe they are going for! After about 15 min of drinking, almost half of my water was gone. As Natalie spoke, she instructed everyone to dip their brushes in to the water on their table...AND THAT'S WHEN IT HIT ME. I had been drinking out of the wrong glass this entire time. I turned around to the kitchen and saw cute glasses and a pitcher of water next to them. As Homer Simpson would say, "DOH"!!! I immediately started laughing at myself. A few minutes later Natalie walked by and I told her what had happened. Of course, everyone got a kick out of it.
That night I learned a super fun new skill, and I laughed at myself...A LOT. Life's too short to be serious. I'm hoping to try something new in the next few months...any ideas on what I should try?! I've always wanted to learn how to play the drums, but I should probably take a cooking class ; ).
Have you taken up a new hobby or skill recently? I would love to hear!
