The Weekender by Lowe's | Garage Makeover Reveal

Back in the early Fall I saw a TV show casting call for first time homeowners in the Austin area who wanted to update a space/room in their home, so you better believe I applied! The application sent by the casting company took me almost two hours to fill out, but in my head I knew it would be worth it if we were chosen. I submitted my living room, garage, and master closet to be considered. We kept moving on to the next round of the process, and I had to submit measurements of our spaces, videos, photos and lots of details of each room. Alex complained (even though he did nothing), and I excitedly kept providing what they needed. We had a Skype call with the casting company, and they sent that video off to the production team that would be shooting the show. As you can guess, they liked us and we were chosen!!!

I'll be posting more behind the scenes details plus before and after photos of the space in another post, but for now here's the final product! Thank you to the East Coast Creative team and Lowe's for giving us our dream garage!

Never Stop Learning

I think it's extremely important to continue learning throughout your life. Whether that is picking up an instrument, crafting, trying out a new workout, learning a new language, or practicing a new skill. Your brain, body and overall life can only benefit from learning. This year I'm intently focusing on spending less $ on material items and more $ on experiences such as learning a new skill.

5 Unique Holiday Cards

I don't know about you but I'm a HUGE fan of receiving Christmas and Holiday cards! I've been guilty of not sending them in the past due to life being crazy, but this year I'm sending them. Years ago most card options were super simple with a verse or holiday saying on it, but these days there are so many ways to personalize them. I've partnered with Minted to show you 5 fun ways to send Holiday cheer rather than a boring old card.

Favorite Things Christmas Party - 2015

This year I swore I wasn't going to throw a Christmas party, but as the holidays got closer I really couldn't help myself. As much work as it is to throw a party, I really do enjoy it. I decided to host a Favorite Things Christmas party for the first time. I had heard about these parties and seen them on Pinterest, but they always seemed a bit overwhelming. Well, I found out they are SUPER easy, and a ton of fun! I love a good theme, and when I found these FREE buffalo plaid printables, I knew that was my theme. I officially went on the hunt for all things buffalo plaid!

I printed off these printables from OfficeMax for less than 50 cents per print, and I bought the frames from Dollar Tree. Each guest received one.

I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a buffalo plaid table cloth so I used wrapping paper that I bought from Target's dollar spot.

For my gift, I bought $3 Christmas trees and super cute $3 wall calendars. Both gifts were from Target's dollar spot. I found some buffalo plaid ribbon at Hobby Lobby and added those to the trees for a special touch!

The total per gift was $6, and each person was asked to bring 5 gifts. So each person spent a total of $30, and brought 5 of the same gift. There was a total of 8 women, so each person wrote their name on a piece of paper 5 times, and we put them in a bowl. Then each person chose 5 pieces of paper out of the bowl, making sure not to pull their own name or someone else's name twice.

I wanted to have fun craft for everyone to work on, so I decided we could make festive garlands. I was proud of myself for finding an awesome deal on glitter card-stock at Michael's ($10 for 20 sheets), bought white yarn, and printed off letters to spell out JOY, CHEERS, BE MERRY, and PEACE. I cut out the letters prior to the party so they would be ready to go. I layed out scissors, pens, a hole punch, yarn and paper. It was nice having an activity to work on while we chatted in the living room, plus each guest was happy to go home with a holiday garland for their home!

The party turned out to be an absolute blast! We had champagne punch and tons of sweet and salty snacks. I think I'm going to make this an annual party that I host.

Have you ever hosted a favorite things party or attended one? If so, what did y'all do differently?
