Before And After: Nursery Closet

I'm excited to finally share with you a fun project I worked on with The Container Store! After redecorating Walt & Whitney's nursery for the One Room Challenge, there was only one thing missing, an organized closet. Their closet was a complete mess! The Container store and their Elfa system to the rescue. You can see the full post here on The Container Store's blog.

Twin Nursery - Goodmorning & Goodnight Posters

I'd love to share with you the details of my decorating process of Walt and Whitney's twin nursery over the next few weeks. First up...the wonderful posters above each crib (I do realize I'll have to move them once the babies can pull themselves up). I have been following blogger, Bethany Menzel, for a couple of years now and fell in love with these posters she designed. I pinned them before I was pregnant not knowing if I would ever use them. When I found out I was having twins I immediately remembered the posters and knew they would be PERFECT! Plus, the price tag was nice. In Bethany's post she gave great advice to have them printed as black and white engineering prints, which came out to less than $4 per poster (24x36). If I would have printed them as normal posters, it would have cost over $40 per poster. I bought the faux wood frames from At Home for $25 each.

These posters are so much more than decor to me. Bethany recently lost her baby, Goldie, and I followed along her family's heartbreaking journey. I cried reading her story and seeing photos of Goldie. Bethany and her family have been faithful, strong, and brave.  When I look at these posters I say a prayer for her family and her sweet baby Goldie. The posters also remind me to be extremely grateful for every day I get to spend with my family.

One Room Challenge: Twin Nursery Reveal {Week 6}

It's reveal day! These past 6 weeks have gone by extremely fast, but I'm so happy I took on Calling It Home's One Room Challenge. I'm so proud of the nursery I designed for Walt and Whitney (originally a guest bedroom), and I can't wait to bring their tiny little bodies home to it. I'm currently 27 weeks pregnant, and if they don't come by January 25, then the doctor will induce. I sit in the room often and imagine rocking them. Now on to the fun stuff....the final reveal photos taken by Austin photographer Kayla Snell. See the before photos here!

What do you think? I hope you love it! I have a few details that I still need to add; sewing navy pom pom trim to the curtains, organizing the closet, and adding crib quilts. I'll be posting more about my design process in the next few weeks. Thank you to those who have followed along these past 6 weeks. I would love to makeover my master bedroom closet for the next challenge this Spring, but I think I will have my hands full...we'll see. Head over to Calling It Home's blog to see all the final reveal photos from the participants. Follow me on Instagram for more design projects and baby updates!

One Room Challenge: Twin Nursery {Week 5}

Week 5 is officially over and we are down to the last week of Calling It Home's 6 week design challenge. I'm actually out of state for work, but I finished up most of the last minute details of Walt & Whitney's twin nursery on Sunday before I left. This Friday I'll be having the nursery photographed and a week from today you will see the BIG REVEAL!

Here's what I accomplished this past week;
  • Hung curtain rod and curtains. I have navy pom pom trim that I'll be adding to the edges of the curtains, but it won't get done by the final reveal : (
  • Bought a gold pouf from one of my favorite stores, Love Ding. This little detail really brought the room together!
  • Styled a gray storage cart with Ubbi wipes dispenser, swaddles, diapers and other goodies we'll need to easily access
  • Added the cutest felt ball garland from Gracie & Marie to my simple IKEA book shelves
  • Added finishing details to the room; swaddles, blanket and stuffed animals (all things I've been gifted or previously owned)

One Room Challenge: Twin Nursery {Week 4}

Week 4 of Calling It Home's One Room Challenge is complete! I find myself sitting in Walt and Whitney's nursery every night. I love it so much, and want to make it as comfy as possible because I remember how bad I got the baby blues with Turner. Maybe a beautiful room will cheer me up when I face those tough emotions again...at least I'm telling myself that.

The nursery is 90% complete, because I will be out of town Monday-Thursday next week, and Friday morning I'm having the nursery photographed. So, it needs to be 100% complete by this coming Sunday. It's been challenging pulling this together so quickly, but it's been fun and I'm excited for it to be finished so soon. After it's all done, I can focus on organizing the closet, purchasing baby clothes (I have only a few girl outfits), preparing my hospital bag, and maybe read some books on twins (haven't done any of that).  Here's a look at what I accomplished (with the help of my husband) this past week!

  • Hung 24x36 posters over cribs (I can't wait to show you these beauties!)
  • Replaced closet doors
  • Hung AtHome mirror over dresser
  • Glider came in, was assembled and is ready for some long nights!
  • Made a trip to IKEA for last minute items, faux sheep skin, shelves for books, curtain rod hardware (I forgot my $30 gift card at home and my total came out to $34...ugh! I was not about to leave w/out my stuff though, I loathe walking through IKEA and didn't want to go back anytime soon.)
  • Hung frames and book shelves
  • Ordered an Ubbi diaper pail and wipes dispenser as well as a felt garland from Etsy shop GracieAndMarie (I'm excited to be collaborating with some great brands)
  • Bought a basket for books & toys, a ceramic elephant, and 2 throw pillows from Target using a few gift cards I received when I spent OVER $150 on diapers (sadly, the diapers will not last very long).

I would love to add one of these acrylic side tables to the nursery, but I think my husband might lose it if I buy one more thing.

One Room Challenge: Twin Nursery

I am SO excited to be participating in Calling It Home's popular One Room Challenge this fall! The timing is perfect as I begin to decorate for Walt and Whitney's twin nursery, and it gives me a 6 week deadline to have it done. The anxiety of having these babies much earlier due to a twin pregnancy is much more real, so it will be refreshing to have the nursery done by the time I'm 28 weeks and before the holidays.  The challenge officially starts a week from today on October 8 and lasts for 6 weeks. Every week I will give you a sneak peek into their nursery and take you through my design process along the way. On November 11 I will show you the transformation in a BIG REVEAL post, so stay tuned!

I'm dreaming of an eclectic and gender neutral nursery for boy/girl twins. Here are some nurseries that have sparked my inspiration!
