Turner's 2nd Birthday Party

Just a few days ago we celebrated Turner's 2nd Birthday!  It was a wonderful day celebrating with family and friends the life of my favorite little boy.  It feels like yesterday we celebrated Year 1.

When deciding the theme for his party, I wanted to start with the invitation.  I like to keep things simple, so I fell in love with this black and white polka dot invitation from Tiny Prints.  I wanted to keep most decorations black & white with a hint of orange, but of course amazing Halloween decorations got me carried away.

We kept the food simple with hot dogs & hamburgers, chips/dip, salsa, fruit and homemade cupcakes.  By the looks of this picture, I think the kids had a great time ; ). My favorite part was watching the kids swing at the pumpkin piñata.  I really enjoyed decorating for a Halloween themed party, and the best part is I can reuse most of the decorations for our Halloween party in a couple of weeks.

Decorations:
  • Invitation - Tiny Prints
  • Ceramic #2 Dish - Ivy Lane via Amazon ($10)
  • Black & White Garland - Target ($4)
  • Mini polka dot pumpkins - Target ($6 for 6)
  • White Frame- IKEA ($1)
  • Paper straws - Target ($1)
  • Halloween tins - Target ($1)
  • Pumpkin Piñata - Target ($15)

BIRTHDAY Success

Happy 1st Birthday Turner Jack! We had a wonderful party last Saturday celebrating Turner's first year of life.  We couldn't have asked for better weather.  Sun shining, cool air and lots of room on the deck for our family and friends.  Here are a few pics from Mr. T's party.

Enough with the gifts and on to this awesome balloon that can entertain me for hours. - T

Thank you to my family who helped me prepare the food.  I was definitely overwhelmed when planning the menu.  I've never entertained a group of people since I've always lived in a tiny apartment, so I didn't know where to start.  There were lots of lists involved.

Menu:
  • Grape Jelly Meatballs (these are addicting and the easiest thing to cook)
  • Homemade Pimento Cheese & Chicken Salad Sandwiches (thanks to my bro & sis-in-law)
  • Spinach Dip w/Pretzel chips
  • 7 layer bean dip w/Tortilla chips
  • Fruit
  • Chocolate & Vanilla Cupcakes w/cream cheese icing
  • Beer, Sodas, Water
  • Smash cake for Turner

I was beyond proud of myself for making Turner's ombre smash cake.  I don't know why, but I felt like it was my mom duty to make it for him.  I baked 3 layers of funfetti cake on Friday, and Saturday morning I successfully iced them.  It wasn't a perfect cake, but I was excited it didn't fall over or crumble.  It actually tasted quite delicious.

Turner's party theme started from a blue ombre fabric garland that I made.  The best part about it was I could mix and match numerous shades of blue and it looked great.  I didn't have to worry about everything matching.

Have you thrown a children's birthday party? If so, what are your tips and tricks?

Turning 2

This past weekend was all about one little girl, Miss Ella Ray. She turned 2, and we celebrated with cupcakes, playing in the dirt, and a ton of presents. I'm already the boring Aunt that gave her clothes, but she needed them and they were super cute. My mom's gift however, a Disney Princess bicycle, kicked my gift to the curb.

Sister got Pinterest crazy and made this as well as 3 recipes for the party.
Maybe I'll make use of all my pins one day, probably not.
Got my hair did....VERY short in the back. Alex said he feels like he's
hugging a boy when he's the big spoon ; )
