Decorating a Cubicle

Sitting in a cubicle with absolutely no windows in site is not ideal (I sometimes dream of being a landscaper for a living), but it pays the bills and atleast I am blessed to have a job and a quiet place to work. I spend 8 hours of my day at my desk, so I might as well make it feel a bit like home.

Below are a few snapshots of my cube and how I've decorated. I like to have LOTS of family photos around to keep me motivated. When decorating your desk or cubicle, I would stick with a common theme or color palette to make it easier. I chose gold, black and white based off of the photo frames I already owned. I am also obsessed with free printables, and they truly brighten my mood when I look at them (think Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day, etc.). During the holidays I usually have a lot more decorations including at least one or two garlands hanging.

P.S. They just opened a Homegoods 2 minutes from my office. I'm in trouble.

Do you work in a cubicle? Have you decorated your desk?

BuiltWell

A while back Alex and I took on our newest business venture, BuiltWell, to earn some extra money.   We had built a farmhouse table for our deck, but after our a/c went out and multiple car issues, we decided we needed the money for our California trip.  We sold it to Jess from the Jess Lively show and her husband Scott, and they encouraged us to start a business.  We thought, why the heck not?  Alex loves building furniture, and he's amazing at it.  I enjoy refinishing furniture, especially vintage pieces, so here we are.  We haven't done too many projects, as we only have weekends to work, so we try to not take too much work on. Check out our Facebook page, Instagram or email us at builtwelltx@gmail.com if you have any requests or questions!

Turner's 2nd Birthday Party

Just a few days ago we celebrated Turner's 2nd Birthday!  It was a wonderful day celebrating with family and friends the life of my favorite little boy.  It feels like yesterday we celebrated Year 1.

When deciding the theme for his party, I wanted to start with the invitation.  I like to keep things simple, so I fell in love with this black and white polka dot invitation from Tiny Prints.  I wanted to keep most decorations black & white with a hint of orange, but of course amazing Halloween decorations got me carried away.

We kept the food simple with hot dogs & hamburgers, chips/dip, salsa, fruit and homemade cupcakes.  By the looks of this picture, I think the kids had a great time ; ). My favorite part was watching the kids swing at the pumpkin piñata.  I really enjoyed decorating for a Halloween themed party, and the best part is I can reuse most of the decorations for our Halloween party in a couple of weeks.

Decorations:
  • Invitation - Tiny Prints
  • Ceramic #2 Dish - Ivy Lane via Amazon ($10)
  • Black & White Garland - Target ($4)
  • Mini polka dot pumpkins - Target ($6 for 6)
  • White Frame- IKEA ($1)
  • Paper straws - Target ($1)
  • Halloween tins - Target ($1)
  • Pumpkin Piñata - Target ($15)

Warm Weekend

We had a wonderful weekend even with the triple digit heat.  Friday, we had a last minute bbq with friends in our backyard.  My buddies discovered our selfie stick, and as you can tell by the pics below we had a good time.  I'm extremely lucky that so many of my college friends live in Austin permanently.

Saturday, I worked some overtime early in the morning, then Alex and I took Turner to the Cedar Rock RailRoad.  Turner loved it of course and it only cost $2.50 a person.  He kept saying "Choo choo" over and over again.  After the ride, we put our tax free shopping plans on hold to take Turner to home to get a nap, sure enough, he NEVER took a nap. That has never happened. I was completely wore out, so that night I went to see Boyhood with my friend at Moviehouse & Eatery. Wow, that movie theatre was insane. I felt extremely lethargic and amazing all at the same time when I reclined by leather chair back while eating soft pretzels and sipping on a mojito.

Sunday, we ate an early breakfast full of pancakes at Ihop, my hair got a trim (I've decided I can't afford to maintain short hair, so I'm growing it out), and we did a little tax free shopping for Alex.  What did you do this weekend? Have a great week!

Smile

This past weekend Alex and I took a short trip to my hometown. I really needed some relaxation, and to see my nieces.   They bring me such joy, and help me to remember what life is really about. Ella, the youngest, is growing so fast, and I hate missing out. She loves taking pictures and videos on my phone, so we had a short photo shoot on Saturday. I just love that when I say, "Make a funny face!", and her little personality comes out.  Her faces are much cuter than mine, that's for sure.

Katie is pretty cute as well : )

On the way back to Austin, we just HAD to stop at the Apple Store since Alex's work discount finally came through.  He couldn't wait any longer to get his precious iPad, which he has been begging to buy since the day the original iPad was released.  He is now a happy man, and his attention span will soon begin to deteriorate...yay for me. (Please hear the sarcasm in my voice)

Winning

I'm not sure how ready I am to experience SXSW for the first time as an Austin resident, but I know my sis-in-law, Megan, and my brother, Wes, are excited.  Wes is a musician/film guy and Megan is a producer, so this festival is right up their alley.  I don't think I've bought music since the Spice Girls released a reunion CD, and I don't see very many movies.

I'm super proud of Megan and her amazing talent. Where Soldiers Come From is a movie she produced, and it recently won a 2012 Independent Spirit Award! Maybe one day she'll take me along to an award show!

Super jealous they got to sit with Rashida Jones at their dinner table!  I love Parks & Rec and that vibrant dress.

Michelle Williams and her to die for pixie cut. Makes me want to cut all my hair off again.

Love this cute floral dress on Zoe Saldana. I'm ready for spring!

Eat. Work. Sleep.

Sorry for being MIA this past week.  Work has been extremely busy, and this past weekend I never got around to taking any photos. Not even on my phone, which usually never happens.

I hope everyone celebrated National Margarita Day yesterday!  The weather was absolutely beautiful here in Austin, and today it's going to hit 90 degrees...whoo hoo. I'm definitely going to try to have lunch outside today.  I desperately need to revamp my closet with spring items.  I spent 15 minutes staring at my clothes this morning.  Have a great day!

Working hard to prepare for Texas Independence Day

Perfect Fit

When I tried on Jcrew's traditional peacoat, I instantly fell in love.  I waited and waited for it to go on sale, and by the time the price got cut in half they were of course out of my size and color I wanted.  I kept waiting for a winter coat to pop out at me that wasn't crazy expensive, and one day at Nordstrom's I stumbled upon this bad boy.  It was only $50 and is the perfect fit/style I was looking for. Although, I've only worn it a couple of times, since the weather has been so mild in Texas. Believe me, I'm not complaining. I hate the cold! I'm sure I'll regret saying that when it's 110 degrees this summer.

Tonight the wedding festivities officially begin for my brother's wedding! We've rented a karaoke room at the Highball to celebrate my future sis-in-law,and I've already mentally chosen my song. It's always a toss up between Spice Girls, George Straight/Garth Brooks, and Prince.

Jacket: Nordstrom. Shirt: Gap Outlet. Sweater: TJ Maxx. Jeans: Banana Republic. Purse: Michael Kors (gift)

Perks

Getting to wear jeans to work is seriously amazing!  Now, I do like to change it up and wear dresses, skirts, or nice pants every once in a while, but I am a jeans kind of girl.  I own quite a few pairs, but lately I've been wearing bootcut.  A woman should always have a pair of dark boot cut and skinny jeans in her closet.  Gap is my go to because their jeans always seem to fit my behind the best.  I've got quite a bit of area to cover ; ).

Casual Day

Since my company is geared toward the Texan theme, I love wearing cowboy boots.  I usually wear my boot cuts with a flowy top and a blazer/cardigan over it to make the look more professional.  I have two pairs of Justin boots, black and brown, and they are wonderful! I would advise every woman to have a good pair of boots in her closet. Perfect for dancing, working cattle (it's been a while for me), and dressing up a pair of jeans.  Sometimes when I got out with friends, I don't want to put on heels because I know my feet will be killing me the whole night, which of course takes away from the fun.  Boots are the perfect solution. And ladies, please don't buy those cheap "fashionista" boots. It's totally worth it to go to a local boot shop and buy a quality pair that will last for years.  I've had my brown boots since I was 16, and they are still going strong.
