Girls Weekend

I enjoyed a wonderful girls weekend with two of my best friends, Anna and Chelsey, from college.  We all live in Austin, and still see each other quite a bit, but it was nice to get away just us three.  Alex and Turner went to my hometown Friday after work so Alex could work on the smoker he's building.

Friday:
Our official girls weekend didn't start till Saturday, so Friday night we invited a boy along to watch a Round Rock Express game. Really I just wanted an excuse to eat cotton candy.  We then headed to downtown Round Rock to explore the night life. Surprisingly there were a few fun local bars with live music.  That night I introduced my friend Craig to Instagram. Mind blown.  When I told him to hashtag his first picture, his confusing response was "I don't have a hashtag!" Umm, what? Next lesson, hashtags.

Right after this picture was taken, that kid behind me came up to me with his mouth open.  He didn't say a word, just looked at me with his hands by his side while I sat there with cotton candy in my hand. I offered him a piece, and still...nothing. So, I went ahead and fed him a piece. Yep, fed this kid like a puppy. His parents were mortified.

Riding a horny toad?
Saturday:
Chelsey and I ate a hearty breakfast at Cafe Java, then met up with Anna to start our mini road trip.  First stop, Enchanted Rock, which is about an hour and a half away.  We hiked and enjoyed the amazing weather. I would not want to make that climb in the heat of the Texas summer.

Next stop, Fredericksburg. One of my favorite small towns in Texas.  The three of us all studied abroad together in Salzburg, Austria in college, so we love reminiscing about our times in Europe, especially over German food. Wienerschnitzel, spatzle...lecker!

After we ate so much we felt like we couldn't breath, we jumped back in the car and drove to Anna's hometown of Kerrville. We showered, took a quick nap and then headed back out to enjoy a few drinks.  I'm on a mojito kick right now. Fresh, not too heavy or sweet, and perfect for the Texas heat.

Kerrville is the home of James Avery, so of course we had to visit the dedicated sculpture downtown. It was extremely peaceful walking down the streets of a small town with absolutely no one on the road or sidewalks. The entire road trip, I was reminded of how much I love the country, and often wish I lived in the middle of no where raising my family on a huge piece of land by a river.

Sunday:
We slept in...8:30am. Then we packed up and drove back to Austin stopping for some Mexican pastries at a gas station in Johnson city.  The rest of the day, I enjoyed the silence of my home, before Turner and Alex returned.  I am thankful for friends to take adventures with, and weekends feel so much longer when they are filled with activities! Here's to next year ladies!

Have you taken any road trips or weekend getaways recently? Where to?

Long Live Abilene

Alex, Turner and I took a quick trip to our favorite little town of Abilene this weekend to see our best friends, Sierra & Grant, graduate with their Masters degrees! So proud of their hard work, and excited for their future. I see big things in store for them.  Maybe next year Turner will have a little buddy to play with?

Had to post this : )

I couldn't help but think while we were in Abilene that 1 year ago I was walking across the same stage receiving my MBA degree, and the next day we packed up everything and moved to Austin.  Alex and I were so excited for the next steps in our lives, and look how far we have come. I never would have thought we would be back one year later with a little boy. I've never been happier in my life. I'm blessed with amazing friends, a wonderful husband, and a healthy son. Thank you Lord for your abundant blessings. I hope I never take them for granted.

Showers & Birthdays

Another great weekend spent in Austin. I had a beautiful baby shower thrown for me by my Aunt, sis, and sis-in-law. Got some great things for Turner, and had craft time making onesies.

Friends and family came in to town, but I wish I had a huge house for everyone to stay in...maybe in the next few years. Blow up mattresses in our living room just doesn't cut it for hospitality.

Saturday night we celebrated my niece Emalee's 9th Birthday w/cupcakes, pizza, and a trip to Jump Street (giant trampoline park). Sunday, Alex and I said our goodbye's to family and later spent some time touring a few Austin homes, and eating pizza for the second meal in a row with Grant & Sierra. Double Dave's pizza buffet = heaven!

So thankful for family and friends. It's weird to hear them say, "Next time I see you, you'll have a baby!"

Labor Free Weekend

What a refreshing three day weekend. Alex and I took a trip up to Abilene to visit our favorite couple, Sierra & Grant, as well as our college buddies we've been missing.  It was the most relaxing 3 days I've had in a long time.

We ate and shopped entirely way too much. I of course didn't buy any clothes, but Bath & Body Works was having a candle sale. Buying fall candles might be more exciting to me than buying clothes. Leaves and Spiced Pumpkin candles to make our apartment feel like fall!

Thank you Greenwood's for the labor day weekend slumber party!

Summer Wedding

This past weekend I was lucky enough to attend one of my oldest friend's weddings at the Kendall Planation in Boerne.  The venue was absolutely beautiful and the bride looked stunning. It was so great getting to catch up with high school friends that I've known since I was a baby. That's what I truly love about small towns.  We have so many hilarious memories together, and I can still remember them like they were yesterday.

Alex and I didn't get back to Austin till about 1 am, and I seriously felt like a bus had run over me the next morning (no alcohol involved). Really? Am I getting that old? Sunday, we ate brunch at my favorite Austin cafe  (pancakes, oatmeal, hash browns w/ketchup...yes, I love breakfast food), watched breaking bad ALL afternoon, and ended the night watching Batman at the Alamo Drafthouse. All in all a relaxing weekend. How was yours?

Aggies sure know how to party!

Exploring Austin

This past weekend Alex and I were finally in Austin! Our best buds, The Greenwoods, came in town and our goal was to make them fall in love with the city (We are trying to convince them to move here!).  We celebrated Sierra's birthday by surprising her with a trip to Hamilton Pool, which was absolutely gorgeous, and the water felt amazing.  Afterwards, we headed to South Congress where we enjoyed some food trailers, and I was finally able to try out the Crepes Mille trailer.  Most people can't understand how I can eat a Nutella and strawberry crepe for lunch, but it's possible people and I loved it.  I worked an event on 6th that afternoon for work, and later that night we hung out on West 6th and even took a peak at East 6th just to see all of the bikers in town for the ROT Rally.  Way too loud for us.
You know your an old couple, when all 4 of us were ready to call it quits by 11pm.  I'm very thankful for our friendship, and no matter where we live one day I hope we can continue to have some awesome vacations together!

Goodbye Abilene

I have mixed emotions about leaving Abilene this weekend.  I'm excited to move to Austin to be closer to my family and experience more of the city life.  But on the other hand, Abilene has been such an amazing home for the past 5 1/2 years. I will never forget the many memories friends and I have created here.  Having to say goodbye to some of my closest friends is very hard to do. I will miss the small town feel, no traffic, and a wonderful community of Christians.  Thank you Abilene, HSU, and all my friends for the best college experience!

Here are a few memories I've made.
