Turner Jack - 12 Months

Turner officially turned ONE on October 19.  It has been a year of learning and pure joy!

Mr. T

- Weighs 18 lbs 13 oz (12th percentile), and is in the 45th percentile for height and head circumfrence

- Loves to be outside.  He was gifted a swing and radio flyer wagon for his birthday, and he is obsessed.  With this beautiful fall weather, I've enjoyed taking Turner for walks every night before dinner.

- Pats Alex's back when Alex picks him up out of his crib.  He also lays his head on Alex's shoulder at the same time, and I think it is the cutest thing.

- Is a walking fool.  This past week he has been walking everywhere, smacking his little baby feet around with his arms raised high.

- Miraculously sleeps through the night.  He wakes up crying about an hour before he wakes for the day around 6:30am, but I think it's because he can hear my phone alarm going off in my room.

- Enjoys music. What baby doesn't?  I like to watch Austin City Limits with Turner, because he seems to really enjoy the live performances.  He hasn't been much of a dancer, which honestly kind of surprises me since he is my flesh and blood.  Right now I think he's having more fun laughing at me while I try to dance.

- Loves when I read to him, but he tries to eat the book about 2 minutes in to the story.

- Is Alex's favorite wood working buddy.  When I need a break from T, Alex will strap him in the baby Bjorn and take him to the garage while Alex organizes his tools and does "man" things.

- When it comes to vocabulary, he can say two words; Mama and Dada.  We haven't been doing a good job of using sign language, so he hasn't been signing to us at all.

- Does a great job eating.  His school teacher says he ALWAYS finishes his meals, and of course he has to be the first one to be fed.  There are times when he shakes his head "no" to certain foods (peas, banana yogurt), but other than that he'll pretty much eat anything.

Turner Jack - 11 Months

Oh man, only one month away till Turner is a year old! He has grown and developed so much this past month. Here are a few updates on what's been going on in Mr. T's life.

- Will put anything and everything in his mouth.  Note the picture below where he decides he wants to try a tasty rock.

- Took his first step at daycare and Alex walked up just in time to catch it on video!

- His sleep schedule is still pretty screwed up.  He's teething right now so he'll wake about twice a night. His bedtime is around 7pm and he's ready for the day at 7am.

- Says "Daaddaaaddaaadddaaa" when he baby talks. Alex is positive he's talking to him, but he says that when Alex is not around so I'm not convinced ; )

- Has learned what fear is.  Before a few weeks ago, nothing scared this kid.  Now, the vacuum, lawn mower and other loud sounds scare him.

- Is a mama's boy.  When he's tired, fussy or scared he puts his cute little baby arms up in the air and waits for me to pick him up and of course I do.  How could I resist?

- Numerous people have told us he is a very calm baby. He's usually pretty quiet and chill, unless he's hungry or tired.

- Hates to be put in his pack n' play. Absolutely hates it! Alex and I have been trying to do a lot of house projects lately, and if we try to put him in the pack n' play while we're working around him, he gets extremely upset.  He cries and screams until we take him out, that's unless Alex sits him right in front of the TV for cartoons, which I am NOT a fan of.

- Has bruises all over his face.  One very curious boy that is learning how to walk makes for very many falls.

Turner Jack - 10 Months

10 Months! Time is flying.  Here's what Turner has been up to this past month.

- Has started to attempt at walking. He will hold on to things with one hand and walk his way around.  He also stood by himself for the first time today.  He loves pushing his baby activity walker!

-  Eats 3 solid meals a day, as well as a snack in the afternoon.  He pretty much eats anything at this point. He takes 4 bottles a day, and we give him water with every meal.

- Still has 8 teeth.  He hasn't had any new teeth come in this month, THANK GOODNESS! I need a break from teething.  His front two chompers have really helped him eat solids.

- Sleep schedule is still very sporadic.  Most nights he gets up at least twice.  I was gone last week for work, and the night I came back and woke up w/Turner I definitely felt the sleep deprivation the next day.  It's not that I'm up for long periods of time, it's the disruption of my sleep cycle that screws me up.

- Loves when I sing to him.  This is my special trick to get him to lay still when I'm changing his diaper or trying to put clothes on him.

- Thoroughly enjoys staring, laughing, and talking to himself in the mirror.

- Jabbers much more, and gets out a mama/dada out every once in a while, but it's not intentional yet.

- His hair is finally starting to grow in, and I can see a few tiny curls starting to pop up. Oh, I hope he has curly hair!

Here's to another month of adventure!

Turner Jack - 9 Months

9 months, that number means a lot to me. I feel like 9 months equals 1 year, but I'm just associating that with pregnancy.  So, I'm glad I have a few more months before Turner turns the big ONE.

Mr. T

- LOVES food! The day his school started feeding him solids, he was officially done with baby food.  His teachers told us they have to feed him first because he gets super angry and throws a fit if they feed another baby before him. Yes, we've raised a monster. He'll eat about anything, his 8 teeth can definitely chomp down.

- 5% weight, 50% height, 55% head circumference

- Pulls himself up on anything and everything.  He especially loves the trash can : ) He is also in the stage of bear crawling.

- Has 8 teeth (4 on top, 4 on bottom). This boy has been teething non stop. So much that he got in trouble at school the other day for biting another baby on the check.  Yep, left teeth marks.  They wrote up an "Official Incident Report" for it.

- Must be going through a growth spurt because his sleep has gotten progressively worse this past month.  He's been waking up at least twice a night.  Usually around 12/1am and 4/5am.  Thankfully, Alex and I split the shifts so we're not completely dead in the morning.

- Has become very curious.  He loves to explore every room in the house, especially the kitchen and bathroom.  He also loves outlets, yay for me.

- Is fascinated with his cousins.  Every time my nieces come around he has a huge smile on his face, and he can't take his eyes off whatever they are doing.  I love hearing him baby talk to them.

We have been having so much fun with Turner as he experiences and discovers new things in life.  His curiosity is the cutest thing, and his smile and laugh make rough days at work fade away.

Hands Free Weekend

Alex and I had the pleasure of a mini Treat Yo Self Weekend. It was a lot like Treat Yo Self Weekend 2012, but this time no bun in the oven. My in-laws came in to town and watched Turner all day Saturday and that night as well so we could have a little break.  Every couple needs a weekend like this every once in a while.  It was the first time Alex and I had been away from Turner together.

Friday, we enjoyed happy hour w/friends, ate Indian food and visited Terra Toys. I can't wait till Turner can appreciate toys.  He's going to go crazy in that store.  He did pick out this cute wooden toy. Ok, maybe I waved it in his face, and he grabbed it.  He would have grabbed a piece of trash if I waved it in his face.

Saturday we were up early, as normal, usually about 6:30am.  We cleaned and packed our bags for our staycation.  Around 10am we headed to TopGolf (It's half off before noon), and it was AMAZING! It's our new favorite place.  The 3rd floor is great, because even if you hit the ball horribly it still gets air.

We then headed to Austin's oldest golf course, Hancock, which is a great place for beginners like me.  We played 9 holes, and had a great time. Let's just say I need a few lessons.

After golf, we ate italian at Little Deli and then went to China Town for a reflexology/massage treatment.  Can you say HEAVEN?!  If you live in Austin I seriously recommend going to FOOT RELAX.  It costs $35 for an hour of pure amazingness.

We went back to our hotel, changed and got ready for dinner & a movie.  I semi-dressed up in my new Target dress, and we saw Mud with Matthew McConaughey (very good movie).  Afterwards we were trying to decide if we should go get dessert or head to a local bar to enjoy a few drinks.  My preggo sis talked me in to the bar, because she wanted me to drink for her.  We had a few and then called it a night.  Home by 10pm, that's how these parents roll.  It's funny, but we had these grand plans of going downtown, enjoying a super nice dinner and then hitting up 6th like we were in college.  Yeah, that definitely didn't happen.  We really just wanted sleep.  I still woke up at 6:30 am wide eyed and ready for the day.

Sunday we reunited with Turner and had brunch with Alex's parents.  I lounged around almost all afternoon, trying to slip in a few naps. For dinner we headed downtown for pizza at Home Slice with my bro and sis-in-law.  All in all we had a very full weekend, and it was a blast.  I can't wait to do it again.  As much as I love spending time with Turner, having my hands free for more than a few hours is such a good feeling.

Turner Jack - 8 months

Celebrating 8 months of Mr. T today! We're loving this stage as his personality begins to come out.  Alex and I rush home every day after work so we can get in some quality play time before bed.

Turner...

- Has 6 teeth. 3 on top, 3 on bottom. His top two teeth were a doozy (major teething going on), but oh my goodness he has the cutest "Turner Gap".  My maiden name is Turner, and my family is infamous for having a gap right in between our two front teeth.

- Is crawling.  It's so cute when he sees me across the room, and crawls as fast as he can to come get me.

- Eating solids twice a day at daycare.  We've also started feeding him fruit as well as baby puffs so he can practice his pincer grasp.

- Sleep is still a struggle.  He usually wakes up once a night, but some nights he'll wake up around midnight, and then wake once more around 5:30am.  That's the worst because I'll wake up to get him back to sleep, and by the time I get back to bed, I've got to get up in 30 minutes.  His bedtime is around 7pm, and if he only wakes up once, he wakes up for the day around 6:30am.

- Loves pulling himself up in his crib.  Now when I walk in to his nursery, he's usually standing up smiling or crying.  His crib backs up to a window w/curtains and he's constantly pulling on the curtains and trying to get to the blinds.

- Scrunches his nose when he smiles.  My heart melts every time.  It still takes quite a bit of effort to get him to laugh, but he LOVES when I rub my hair across his face and belly.

- We've stopped giving him prevacid, his acid reflux medicine, and he is doing great.  He still doesn't drink the amount of milk most babies his age do, but isn't spitting up or crying when he eats.

- Travels like a pro.  We've been out of town almost every weekend this summer, and Turner does great on road trips.  He sleeps most of the time, and if he's not sleeping he plays with his toys.

- We've still not experienced any separation anxiety which is very nice when visiting friends and family.  He'll let ANYONE hold him, especially if your a lady with long hair and shiny jewelry.

Cousins

Babies, babies everywhere.  I love that Turner gets to grow up with cousins that are similar in age.  Not only does Turner have sweet little Emma to play with who is just 3 months older, but he'll have two new cousins coming this November and December! I can't wait! They make holidays so much fun.

Cousin Will loving on Turner. Will's last name is Turner, so it can get a little confusing.

Turner Jack - 7 Months

Mr. T is growing like a weed.  His expressions are getting bigger every day, and we fall more in love with him every second!

Turner...

- Had tubes put in his ears a few days ago due to numerous ear infections.  He was a young candidate for the procedure but he met all the requirements, so we went with it.  I'm glad we got it over with.  Alex was sweet enough to take him at 5:30 while I went to work. I'm kind of glad I didn't have to see my baby under anesthesia.

- Sleeps better, but it's a guessing game every night of how he long he will sleep.  Some nights he'll wake up every 3-4 hours, and some nights he'll sleep for 7 hours straight.  I'm hoping after getting the tubes, he will finally be able to get a normal sleep pattern since he won't be sick.  We haven't started sleep training him yet, but I'm hoping to start in a few weeks.  We've been out of town a lot, and we haven't wanted to sleep train him when he's sick. Excuses excuses, I know.  One day we'll get fed up with waking up numerous times during the night, and we'll actually do it.

- Sits up, but should still be monitored.

- Is trying so hard to crawl.  He gets on all fours, scoots one knee up and then falls face forward on the ground.  Hasn't grasped that he has to move an arm when he moves a leg.  I'm kind of hoping he doesn't start crawling yet, because I highly enjoy that he's not super mobile.

- Still eats solids twice a day.  Although, we have been letting him try different foods when we eat out.  Probably not the best idea, but it's so cute to watch a baby's face when they try new things.  His doc said we can take him off his ridiculously expensive formula since he's finally starting to gain weight, but he is still taking prevacid for acid reflux.

- Loves anyone and everyone.  Thankfully, he has no problem being handed off to people other than Alex and I.  I think his pre-school helps a lot with that, plus we are always playing, Pass the Baby.

- Has started learning sign language.  We've been teaching him the basic signs for eating and drinking.  He has definitely started to put the words and signs together, because when I make the sign for milk he gets super excited.

Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
