#JesseCoulter - No. 20

After Walt and Whitney were born I immediately lost almost 30 pounds, and I felt great. Fast forward a month, and now I feel bigger than when I was 9 months pregnant...I know that sounds crazy. I had a huge belly, but my stomach was tight. It feels like someone let all the air out of me, and I'm a droopy balloon. With all that being said, my clothing options are limited. WARNING women who have just had a baby, DO NOT try on your pre-pregnancy jeans! I made that mistake, but have come to terms that it's going to likely take a year to get back to my normal shape. It took my body a year with Turner. However, I have a feeling it's going to be a bit challenging finding the time to take a work out class.

Sweater: A&F. Jeans: Old Navy (Maternity). Boots: Kork-Ease. Jacket: Ross. Scarf: Forever 21
Tunic: Old Navy. Cardigan: Target. Jacket: Ross. Leggings: Motherhood Maternity. Boots: Aldo (This photo was taken prior to weaning myself from pumping...hello boobs!)
Tee: Old Navy. Jeans: Cotton On. Shoes: Birkenstocks. Sunglasses: Forever 21. Diaper Bag: TwelveLittle.
I've been wearing leggings a ton, but it's starting to warm up here in Texas so on to shorts and dresses. I've also been wearing my maternity jeans a lot, but decided to bite the bullet and buy a pair of jeans even though I plan on losing weight. I spotted THESE American Eagle boyfriend jeans online and fell in love. I immediately went in to the store and tried on a pair. It was like heaven was shining down on me...they fit like a glove and made me feel great. They are comfy, stretchy and figure flattering...and only cost me $38! You've got to try on a pair!

I've found that doing my hair and putting on jeans makes me feel a bit like myself again, even if I'm not 100% comfortable with my body. Mamas, did you experience this after you had kiddos?

Have you ever "liked" a blogger's Instagram photo, and then received an email with the item details and it was insanely expensive! I don't know why I follow bloggers who have MUCH bigger budgets than I, maybe for inspiration?  After a few instances of being extremely pissed off that bloggers would send me to a dress that costs $600, I decided I should start linking my outfits to show you affordable yet fashionable options.  So from now check out the bottom of my style posts to find links to either the exact item or a similar option (many of my items are OLD). If you follow me on Instagram, sign up HERE and every time you "like" my post, you will get an email with the links to my outfit pieces!

My favorite time of the year is here...shorts and sandal weather! My polka dot Loft shorts from last season are on rotation, and as you can see I'm mixing with my favorite color....gray.

If you are on the hunt for a pair of RayBan Aviators, yet can't fork over $150, check out Forever 21 or PacSun. I scored these for $7 from the PacSun outlet, and I love them!

Spring is here and the TX heat is coming, so I've been purchasing comfy dresses that are casual but can be dressed up for a night out with friends or date night.  I also think dresses are great for active moms and anyone who doesn't like picking out an outfit, because you can throw them on last minute and look put together. I've been finding some really great deals this season, which proves you really don't have to spend an arm and a leg to find fashionable clothing.

Dress: Old Navy ($24)  Shoes: Target
Dress: Gap ($30) Shoes: Target. Necklace: Nordstrom Rack
Skort: Abercrombie & Fitch ($20). Tee: A&F . Heels: Chelsea Crew via Creature's Boutique (Get them here in tan)

LOFT's Casual Style

I'm a HUGE fan of Loft right now. Black and white stripes, comfy dresses, rompers and all 40% off. Come to mama...an active mama who wants to feel put together without too much work. Check out some of my favorites below and shop here! (This is not a sponsored post...I'm just loving Loft!)

Austin Fashion Week: Discovery Runway Show

It was my first time to attend a runway show last Thursday, and Austin Fashion Week did not disappoint.  I had a front row seat with my girl Emilie, and absolutely loved seeing the work of up and coming designers.  The rain thankfully stopped right before the event, and I wore my favorite new skort....so comfy.

Top: Vince Camuto. Skort: Abercrombie and Fitch (only $20 right now). Wedges: DV by Dolce Vita via Nordstrom.

My favorite designer of the night was Mysterious by NPN. Loved the gorgeous gowns and how the hats increased in size with each model.
After the show, we headed upstairs to the VIP area and scarfed our face in THE MOST amazing desserts. Macarons, cream puffs, petit fours, cake balls, chocolate covered oreos, mini eclairs and more...ahhh, sugar coma.

#JesseCoulter - No. 2

Here's another round of #JesseCoulter outfit posts from Instagram. Lots of selfies going on here people....I apologize, but you do what you have to do to get that outfit photo ; ).

**Attention!** It would be a crime if I don't tell you about my favorite jeans. The Mid-Rise Super Skinny Rockstar Jeans from Old Navy are AMAZING! They are skinny in the calf so they tuck easily in to boots. They are stretchy yet firm so they hold everything in. I love where they hit on my waistline which is right at my belly button, and the spandex makes them extremely comfortable. I could wear them all day, every day. The best part....they are affordable! Their regular price is $34.95, but Old Navy runs a sale constantly (today they are 25% off, so they would only cost you a little over $26).

True Story: I was raving about these jeans to my co-workers, and told them they must grab a pair. Some replied I was skinny, and they didn't think the jeans would look good on them. I told them not to worry, and to try them out. Sure enough, a week later we were all wearing the same jeans!

Austin Moms Blog Photo Shoot

Last night I headed to downtown Austin for an Austin Moms Blog photo shoot with Laura Morsman photography . Our attire was supposed to involve denim, boots and summer colors.  This is the best outfit I could come up with. On the plus side these shorts felt like pajamas with an elastic waist band.  I would have liked to run to the store and picked up a whole new outfit as well as have a blow out, but this momma is on a budget.  I've got a major master bathroom renovation going on.

I love the Austin skyline, and as you can see it's continuing to grow as more and more buildings go up every day. I've also become quite fond of jumping pictures.  The toothpick pose might be my favorite. If I was as flexible and agile as I was in high school, I might be able to pull of a hurkey or pike, but I'm pretty sure my back would go out if I tried it.

Shorts: Billabong Outlet
Boots: Justin
Jewelry: Kendra Scott (borrowed for the shoot)

Put A Blazer On It

My ASOS peplum top has become my most worn and favorite tee in my wardrobe.  I've dressed it down here, and dressed it up with this outfit.  I wore this to a dinner for Austin Mom's Blog contributors. Mexican food, great cocktails and new mommy friends who enjoy blogging, couldn't be better.

P.S. - Adding a blazer to any outfit immediately takes your outfit from drab to fab (that's my What not to Wear phrase for the day).

Casual Peplum

Meet my new favorite tee! I have loved the peplum trend, but haven't been able to find the right length or material till I struck gold with this top. The best part about it is I can stuff my face with food and my belly has all the space in the world.  I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy it in every color.

True story about the purse I'm carrying.  Alex gave it to me for my birthday, 7 months ago, but last weekend I finally decided to use it.  Honestly, it sat so beautifully in my closet, untouched that I didn't want to carry it for the longest time.  I waited for the perfect spring day to change purses.

90 Day No Shopping Challenge Complete!

My 90 day no shopping challenge is officially over! I successfully did not buy one item of clothing for myself for 3 months, although I did buy these pants from Gap with my reward points, so not sure if that counts.  I joined my friend, Kelsey, back in January for this "fun" challenge as I noticed myself always shopping sales (specifically Gap), and getting to the point where I was buying just to buy because it was on sale.  Don't get me wrong, I love every thing I purchase, but I didn't need it.

Challenges:
  • Stepping away from the emails.  In the beginning I was still receiving retail emails daily on specific sales.  I quickly learned I could not handle looking at those everyday, so I unsubscribed from all of my retail websites.
  • Staying away from clothing stores.  On the weekends, I like to spend a few hours of my baby-free time shopping or at least window shopping.  During the challenge, I found it very hard to window shop knowing that in 3 months that top I loved might not be there, so I had to find a new weekend activity (insert estate sales).
What I learned:
  • This challenge has helped me to realize what essential items I want (I really hate to use the word, need, when it comes to clothes) in my closet that can build a great wardrobe, and also help me to focus on the specific pieces of clothing I want to save for.  It was a great time to start the challenge, because I became a thrifting fool of furniture and home decor, and it was nice to have that extra money to spend on our house.
  • It can wait.  There were a few times during the challenge I saw an item of clothing that I felt I just had to have, BUT I had to walk away.  The only thing that gave me the strength to walk away was the challenge.  I was able to practice self restraint numerous times.  Many items I saw have come and gone in my mind, but a few have stuck out.  If I'm still dreaming about them they will likely be great additions to my wardrobe.

Thankfully, Alex and I started a very strict budget, so I won't be going on a crazy shopping spree since the challenge is over.  Below are a few of the specific items I can't get out of my head that I feel would be perfect for my spring wardrobe.

1. Anthropologie Tunic $48 - I find myself wearing plain t-shirts every weekend, so this tee is perfect to add a bit more detail and get more of a put together look.

2. Lotta T-Bar Clogs $78 - These have great reviews, and are less pricey than other popular brands.  These would be perfect to dress up a pair of boyfriend jeans or a simple cotton dress.

3. Fossil Chambray Popover $88 - I've always loved denim, and I've been living in my Gap denim pearl snap (I remember buying it for $50 6 years ago, and worrying I spent too much money on it. That is definitely not the case now, because I have washed it over and over and it still has maintained its quality)

4. Jeffrey Campbell Ibiza Sandal $55 - Simple and versatile enough to throw on with a pair of shorts or a casual dress

5. Fossil Slim Boyfriend Jean $98 - I live in jeans. I probably wear jeans 4 out of 7 days a week.  I've got slim pickins right now in my closet, so this will definitely be my first purchase after the challenge.

6. ASOS Smock Dress $40 - It's finally warming up here in Texas, and I'm ready to wear dresses again. This dress looks comfy enough to lounge around in on the weekends or dress up for dinner with friends.

7. Toms Classic $54 - I have worn my gray Toms in to the ground.  They're covered in paint and my big toe is poking through.  I feel a bit white trash when I wear them out, but they are so comfy.  It's about time I replace them.

I would definitely be up for doing the challenge again, maybe next time a full year?! Did you participate in the challenge? If so, how did you do?!

Feminine Camo

When Alex saw this outfit (which was also the first time he had seen me wearing these pants), the first words out of his mouth were "Oooohhhhh, Combat Jesse...." Um, I guess I'll take that as a compliment.  These did feel a bit masculine, but I paired them with my favorite sparkly pullover and some pearls to add a feminine touch.

So, I'm not going to lie, these pants are new, BUT I didn't buy them.  I used my Gap rewards points, so they were free thanks to prior purchases.  I had seen them in the store a few months ago, and while perusing online I saw they only had one size left and it just so happened to be mine. I had the reward points saved up, so I thought this would be the perfect time to cash them in. These pants are extremely comfortable, and the perfect pair of khakis for work or a casual weekend.  I have them in red, and I'll probably buy (after April 1) a few more fun colors for spring/summer.

Tee: Target
Khakis: Gap (on sale for $38 plus an additional 30% off = $27!)
