Love at First Sight

I fell in love with this Express skirt months and months ago, and have been patiently waiting for it to go on major sale.  I gave up on it a while back, but the other day I happened to stop in Express to look for some work clothes when I spotted it on the clearance rack.  Of course they were out of my size, and I almost cried to an employee. I was walking out of the store when I thought..."Heck, let me just try on a different size and hope for the best." Well, sure enough, it fit! A bit snug...the type of snug where eating a full meal and sitting hurts, but I will make it work. I don't dress up too often, even on a girls night, so I thought the only occasion I'll have to wear it is a wedding. One of my friends from college got married this past weekend, and thankfully it was warm enough to wear this outfit.  I did feel my look was not fall appropriate and a tad out of my comfort zone with the skin showing, but I took the risk.  I bought the top last minute at Forever 21 for $5!

Simple Summer Style

Meet the softest tank you will ever wear. You can dress it up like I did here, or wear jeans and converse with it and it would be just as cute.  I'm a sucker for simple tops and neutrals, and periodically I have to stop myself from buying so much gray. Check out Everlane for some amazing basic pieces that are high quality and won't break the bank.

Overall Success

A few weekends ago I stopped by Cotton On with my friend for the first time. I mosied my way to the sale section in the very back, and I was immediately attracted to these overalls. "$35? Eh, I'll try them on. I doubt they'll fit." Sure enough they did, and I might have done a happy dance in the dressing room. Do you ever do that? Find a piece you love so much you literally bust out dancing or jump up and down in your dressing room because you're so excited?!  As I headed to check out, I went through my normal questions "Do I need it? No. Do I love it? Yes. Can I afford it? $35 is a lot cheaper than Free People's version.

So, I talked myself in to them.  As the clerk rang them up, she let me know they were a final sale item and were $10. TEN DOLLARS! Heck yes. Now Alex really couldn't complain about me buying them.  I have worn them every weekend since I purchased them, even though Alex is not a fan.  They are uber comfy, and every time I wear them I think about the awesome deal I got.

No Shopping Challenge

I enjoy a good challenge, and when my friend Kelsey decided to not shop for 90 days I made the decision to join her.  I know I've been shopping too much recently. My problem is that stores will have major sales, and the items will be so cheap that I feel like I can't NOT buy them.  I mean serious sales. I'm getting clothing 70-80% off it's original price.  I walk a way with a steal, but in the end I never needed it in the first place.  I love a good deal, but at a certain point I need to realize that I don't have to buy every item on sale. Shopping is addictive, I know.  I am tired of always wanting more.  I'm hoping this challenge will give me some peace, so I can focus on the more important things in life.  When I was in college, I challenged myself to only shop second hand for 1 year, and I did it. I know I can complete this challenge, but I hope to gain a good lesson that will stick with me when I do begin to shop again.  Walk away from the sale Jesse, walk away.

With that being said, I will not be shopping for clothing for myself for 90 days.  March 31 is the last day of the challenge. I'll still be posting outfits, that is if I can continue to talk Alex in to taking photos of me.  He grunts a little less now when I ask since we only have to take a few steps to our deck.

2013 Fashion Favorites

I didn't document many of my outfits in 2013 due to the fact that half of the year I was wearing jeans and a tee.  I hope to post much more in 2014!  Here are a few of my favorites from this past year.

Party Pants

Christmas has come and gone, and now I feel like I have to put these pants away.  I bought them last winter on super clearance at Jcrew Factory, and this is the first time I've worn them.  What a shame because they are the comfiest pants I've worn all year!

Yes, it is COLD here!

Tee: Madewelll
Pants: Jcrew Factory

P.S. - Congrats to Emily Newcome for winning the Empress Stationary Stamp Giveaway! I'll be emailing you with details soon.

Fall Shorts

It was the perfect storm last weekend for me to bust out my wool shorts, weather above 60 degrees and a basket full of dirty clothes.  Sunday, Alex, Turner and I ventured out to Georgetown to walk around the square, pop in a few antique shops and have lunch at an amazing mexican restaurant.  As we were walking I looked down at my legs and was reminded of how pale I am, I asked Alex, "Does my paleness scare you?" Of course he looked at me like I was crazy.  I ask a lot of questions where he gives me that face.  It had been a while since I'd seen my legs in broad day light, and they kind of threw me off guard for a minute. "Whoa, I feel like Powder right now. Seriously." I think Alex was just happy the shorts gave me an excuse to shave.  In all seriousness, I don't mind my fair skin.  I tried a tanning bed once in high school, and I burned in 4 minutes. Then, I decided I would try to get a quick spray tan to even out my sunburn, and I got confused with the directions and accidentally put the special lotion (which I later found out you're only supposed to but in the creases of your hands and on your elbows/knees) all over my body.  I popped out and sure enough I looked worse than before. Sun burned with splotchy dark spots.  Just what I wanted the day before PROM!  Needless to say, I do not tan.  In the summer, I wear as many layers as possible.  "Laying out" is a foreign term to me.  I love the sun, and enjoy it's warmth, but I try my hardest to protect my skin from it.

I digress.  Back to the shorts. I love them, and I'm sad it has taken me so long to dig them out of the bottom of my dresser.  I'm hoping warmer days like these.

The Everyday Dress

Please excuse my smirk in all of these pictures. I was a tad bit cold.  I've been avoiding taking outfit pics in the morning due to the frigid weather we've had in Texas lately.

Can we talk about how much I love this dress!? The sweatshirt material makes it extremely comfy, and the a-line waist is perfect for the days I feel like eating a ton. You can dress it up or down, but I dress pretty casual for work so I paired mine with riding boots and a scarf to accessorize.

Here's to the weekend! I'll be party prepping for my work Christmas party Alex and I will be hosting.  It is our first official Christmas party in our new house, and I'm a bit anxious.  We are working hard at becoming great party hosts, and hope that one day we will have friends and family over for numerous parties through out the year.  I'll let you know how it goes!

Every Day Cardigan

I have been living in this cardigan! Not only is it super comfy, but it's extremely warm.  I found it at Ross for $20, and w/ a $15 gift card I walked out with a steal.

I'm at home with a sick baby today.  Day care kicked him out for running a fever.  They've also kicked him out for the stomach bug, strep throat and pink eye.  Dear day care, I think you're the problem.

Morning Blues

This is my attempt at taking outfit photos in the morning.  I don't know how you do it Kendi.  I am a morning person, usually up by 6:15 with Turner, but when I looked at these photos my eyes were uber puffy and I did not look like a happy camper.  Reminded me of the first day of school pictures my mom used to take.  So, I cropped my head out of these pics as well as my boring shoe choice.

This vest has been fun to wear, because every time I wear it I sing "Vest with the fffuuurrrr!" over and over again.  My co-workers really enjoy it ; )

Hot & Cold

It's that time of year in Texas when it's freezing in the morning (which is 55 degrees to me) and warm in the afternoon.  I can vividly remember the days back in middle school when I would get so annoyed that I had to bring my down jacket in the morning and by 3pm I was lugging it home on the bus.  I wasn't sure this morning if I should wear tights or bare my white legs in the cold morning air.  Well, as you can see I didn't wear tights, and for the first few seconds of sitting down on my car's leather seats it was excruciating.  Thank goodness for full blast heaters.  Yes, I am a baby, and I don't do cold weather.    How do you do it Northerners!?

Casual Monday

I've decided Mondays should be the new casual Friday.  I feel much more enthusiastic about dressing up on Friday compared to Monday. Monday, I roll out of bed mourning my weekend is over, therefore all I want to wear are jeans.  So today that is exactly what I did.  I dressed them up with my favorite pair of oxfords and a fun pair of socks.

Mirror Mirror #2

These might be the last few mirror selfies I take in Turner's nursery before moving in to our house!  I told Alex we need to purchase a good size selfie mirror for our new home. He rolled his eyes.

Feeling Fancy

I got all dressed up in my new Lulu's dress for a Thursday night happy hour with some fellow moms.  Unfortunately,  by the time I got there we had to reschedule due to babies being sick, but that comes with the territory and I completely understand.  So I took a stroll to a few shops at the Domain.  A new store, Bevello, was having their grand opening so I was able to shop, snack on some good food, and I got my make up done.  I was hoping for a casual makeover, because I struggle with my everyday look, but the make up artist said, "Sorry, we're doing high fashion make-up tonight." So, he went to town.  I kind of felt like a peacock afterwards, or some sort of bright bird, but it did bring out my eyes.  I'll stick to my basic eyeshadow for now, but it is fun getting dolled up every now and then.

Mirror Mirror #1

Here's another addition of nursery outfit snapshots.  I can never think of what to title these posts because they are very random, but I think Mirror Mirror fits. Lately I feel my closet has gotten really boring.  I feel the need to throw a ton out and start from scratch, but financially I've got to stick with what I've got.  I was thinking about doing Kendi's 30x30 challenge, but then I realized I pretty much do that without trying.  How do you mix up your outfits on a budget?
